The MRS Racing team, which has made its name in the ADAC GT Masters, is launching an eSports team and is looking for new, talented young sim racing drivers.
Esports is becoming increasingly important in the world of real motorsport. Proof of this can be found in the growing numbers of participants and spectators. To stay abreast of current developments, MRS has decided to launch its own Esports team. The project is initially designed to run for three years.
The team is putting its faith in a mix of experienced drivers from real motor racing and young sim racing drivers. In Marc Gassner, the new Esports team has already secured the services of a successful driver. Between 2015 and 2017, he drove a real GT3 car for MRS, including in the ADAC GT Masters. He will take on the role of captain for the team and will represent MRS in all important Esports races. His first big assignment will be in the 2021 ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship powered by EnBW mobility+, for which he has already qualified in the shootout race.
The team is now on the lookout for young sim racers, who would like to take the next step on their career in a professional team with MRS Esports. Interested drivers have the opportunity to qualify for the selection procedure by posting a fast lap time on a leaderboard. The leaderboard will be open on RaceRoom.com from 29th April to 6th May. The fastest 32 drivers will go head to head in a shootout on 12th May. MRS Esports will select three to five drivers from the fastest ten for the rest of the application procedure. “Esports is growing rapidly, and we cannot afford to rule out this market for our partners and fans. For this reason, we decided to professionally assemble our own sim racing team and to sign up the best young drivers on the market. We are particularly pleased to have Marc Gassner on board, and that we can continue to cooperate with him on a digital level. We are sure that Marc will be a great help with the training of our sim racing team,” said team principal Iris Dorr from MRS Racing.
“I have a very special relationship with MRS, as I had the pleasure of driving a real car for the team from 2015 to 2017,” said former GT Masters driver Marc Gasser. “As such, I am delighted to now be a part of the new MRS Esports team and to represent this team in the coming ADAC GT Masters Esports Championship. At the same time, the team and I are looking for more team members, who are good drivers and also have the necessary team spirit.”
The 2021 season of the ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship powered by EnBW mobility+ consists of 16 races at the same virtual circuits as the venues for the real ADAC GT Masters. Each event features a ten-minute qualifying, a 20-minute sprint race and the 40-minute main race.
