ADAC Formel 4·28.8.2015

2nd practice: Shwartzman wins through in the rain: Damp opener

The second free practice session of the ADAC Formula 4 at the Sachsenring was again affected by rain. Robert Shwartzman (15, RUS, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) won through in the wet conditions, as he had done earlier in the first session. The young Russian set the fastest time of 1:38.004 minutes.

Marvin Dienst (18, GER, HTP Juniorteam) slotted into second place on the timesheet with a deficit of 0.329 seconds. The championship leader covered the challenging circuit in 1:38.333 minutes on his best lap. Joey Mawson (19, AUS, Van Amersfoort Racing), who is placed third overall in the standings of the ADAC High-Speed Academy, was third with a best time for the Van Amersfoort Racing driver of 1:38.722 minutes. Title contender Joel Eriksson (17, SWE, Motopark) was unable to do better than P19.

Giorgio Maggi (17, CHE, Race Performance) and Jason Kremer (20, Bonn, Team Timo Scheider) placed fourth and fifth respectively. And so, drivers from five different teams finished in the Top Five on the timesheet. The top positions were keenly contested despite the tricky weather conditions. David Beckmann (15, Hagen, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) in sixth place had a deficit of just 0.962 seconds on the best time set by his kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport team-mate.

Harrison Newey (17, GBR, Van Amersfoort Racing), son of legendary Formula 1 designer Adrian Newey, secured seventh place with a personal best of 1:39.148 minutes. Mauro Auricchio (17, BRA, Team Timo Scheider), Nico Rindlisbacher (19, CHE, Jenzer Motorsport) and the son of racing driver Jonathan Cecotto (16, VEN, Motopark) completed the Top Ten in FP2 at the Sachsenring. The session was stopped twice and finished under the red flag five minutes before the end.

Formula 4 continues with the quali at 15:35 CET. Qualifying will be held in two groups due to the high number of entrants. The best-placed driver from FP1 always lines up in Group A. All other drivers with an odd number finish on the timesheet are likewise assigned to Group A. The driver with the second fastest time from first practice and all the other drivers with even number finish positions start in Group B. Qualifying at the Sachsenring begins with Group A, followed by group B.
