ADAC Formel 4·11.9.2015

Comments on Friday : A satnav on the steering wheel

Kevin Kratz (18, DEU, Lechner Racing): This is my first ADAC Formula 4 race weekend, and I´ve had only one day of testing before. Consequently, I had to get my bearings on the first few laps and familiarise myself with the track. A satnav on the steering wheel would not have gone amiss! The second free practice session went a bit better after I had got into the routine. I was quite nervous going into this morning´s session, but I then concentrated fully at the wheel.

Marek Böckmann (18, DEU, Jenzer Motorsport): I´m very pleased with P4 and P7. That was the best Friday I´ve had so far in ADAC Formula 4. Towards the end of the second session, more might have been possible, but I was somewhat held up by traffic. All in all, it was a great result, and the balance of the car was perfect right from the start. We hardly changed anything on the setup. I hope it goes just as well on fresh tyres tomorrow. Anyway, I´m confident of getting into the Top Ten.

Michelle Halder (16, DEU, Michelle Halder): My times in today´s two practice sessions were OK, but I´m not totally satisfied. I hope qualifying goes a bit better tomorrow. We're still working on that. I think it´s great that we´re driving on the same weekend and at the same venue as the DTM. My brother Mike drives in the Porsche Carrera Cup, so I know quite a few people here. But to be competing yourself against this backdrop is another story altogether.

Marylin Niederhauser (20, CH, Race Performance): The first practice this morning didn´t go too badly – a lot better compared to April when I drove my very first ADAC Formula 4 race here at Oschersleben. In the second session, I had been hoping for more, but unfortunately I got stuck in traffic. By the time I had found my rhythm, the session was unfortunately almost over. I´m sure that we can still find a bit more time in qualifying tomorrow. For me, it´s especially important to be able to see that I´m making personal progress. That is absolutely the case, as the data shows.

Jonathan Cecotto (16, VEN, Motopark): My father Johnny is driving one of the race taxis here this weekend. I think that´s great, and maybe he´ll take me on a lap too. In any case, that would definitely be easier than if I gave him a lift in my formula car... But joking aside, the first free practice went well for me, and I ended up in the Top Ten. Unfortunately, we weren´t able to improve significantly compared to some of the other drivers in the afternoon. We now need to find out why that was the case. But tomorrow is another day, and I will definitely be giving it everything I´ve got.

Joel Eriksson (17, SWE, Motopark): The first session started quite well. However, we had some issues that we wanted to get to grips with before the afternoon – unfortunately without success. The understeer of the last few race weekends has now turned into oversteer. In addition, the tyres were a little older. We now need to find a solution before qualifying. If we can, then I´m hopeful of a good result.

David Kolkmann (18, DEU, Jenzer Motorsport): After three laps of the first session, unfortunately, I left the track and went into the gravel. From then on, the car no longer felt optimal and I was sliding about. In the second session, the tyres were a little older and not as fast. But we have identified a few points for me to work on, and tomorrow it should go better.

Nikolaj Rogivue (19, CH, Nikolaj Rogivue): My weekend got off to a good start, although the car was not perfect. In the first practice, we were struggling with understeer. We were able to make the necessary changes for the second session, and the car was much better after that. I went six tenths faster but was unable to move up the timesheets, as everyone else managed to improve by a similar amount. It´s still looking very good for tomorrow – the speed is definitely there. I just have to get all my good sector times to come together in one lap.

Joey Mawson (19, AUS, Van Amersfoort Racing): Today was a decent day. The first session went well; I was only just off the leaders´ times. Fortunately, we got a grip on that for the second session, and I moved up into the Top Three. In qualifying tomorrow, Marvin Dienst is in the other group. The main thing is therefore to beat Janneau Esmeijer and Joel Eriksson who are competing in the same group as me.

Tim Zimmermann (19, DEU, Neuhauser Racing): Free practice didn´t go as well as I had anticipated. We tried a few things for tomorrow´s setup and had slightly older tyres compared to many of my opponents. That makes a big difference on this track with its many fast corners. Consequently, I´m not worried and I expect an improved performance in qualifying.

Carrie Schreiner (16, DEU, HTP Junior Team): The first practice session didn´t get off to such a bad start. Towards the end, though, the car was deteriorating. It took me a little longer in the second session to post better times. Just before the end, we made a small tactical mistake which prevented me from improving any further. But Saturday´s qualifying should go better.

Robert Shwartzman (15, RUS, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport): The practice sessions today didn´t go according to plan. I was on old tyres in the first session and pushed them to the limit in terms of speed. In the second session, I had two new tyres plus two from the first session. This upset the balance of the car. However, we discovered some things about the car during the morning and afternoon. If I can eliminate my errors tomorrow and if we can find some extra speed, it should be OK.
