Joel Eriksson (17, SWE, Motopark): "Qualifying went very well for me. At first, I was on P3, but knew that there was scope for improvement. I then managed this on my last lap, so that was perfect timing. The track dried up for the second group, and I quickly realised that I would end up in second place. Still, that´s a very good starting position for the race, and victory remains the clear objective. We should have good pace and the right setup in the dry."
Marek Böckmann (18, DEU, Jenzer Motorsport): "The first practice was super today, ending in fifth place. We got everything together. In the second session, though, we underestimated the conditions and didn´t set the car up right. So we had to make some changes for qualifying when it finally started to dry up. The three interruptions made it very hard to get into the right rhythm. I only managed single good laps because there would always be traffic or a red flag in the follow-up lap. In the end, I just had time for one more run. That was OK, but I´m not really happy with my second-fastest lap time."
Jason Kremer (20, DEU, Team Timo Scheider): "Our car was super in the free practice sessions, as is borne out by the P2 and the P5. The rain suited us, so we were feeling optimistic ahead of qualifying. But unfortunately, we didn´t come up with the optimum solution for the conditions, and the car wasn´t as good as it had been earlier. Added to which, I made a small error. In qualifying, it´s all about going to the limit, and that´s what I did. Now I´m starting both races from seventh. I feel that more might have been possible."
Cedric Piro (17, DEU, Piro Sports): "Today´s free practice was the first time I´ve ever driven at the Sachsenring. The track was completely new territory for me, and the rain didn´t make the situation any easier. Even so, the first session went quite well, but unfortunately I failed to raise my level of performance in the later sessions. We were struggling a bit with the setup. This will also be a challenge tomorrow, because we have no experience of driving on this track in dry conditions. But we´ll still be giving our best, of course."
Jannes Fittje (16, DEU, Motopark): "The first ten minutes of qualifying went very well. I was on the fringe of the Top Five and felt confident of doing even better. When the session was interrupted, I came into the pits and changed tyres. But then, unfortunately, the balance was no longer optimal. I skidded and was unable to improve my position."
Mike Ortmann (15, DEU, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport): "It rained all day, and we were unable to get up to top speed during free practice. Qualifying continued in the same vein, and so the best I could manage in my group was two P8s. We now have to analyse exactly why the speed is missing here. I´ll give everything in the race in order to get the maximum out of it. The Sachsenring is quite a difficult track and even more so in these conditions. The many corners with intermittent braking make overtaking difficult, and I´ll have to hope for others to make mistakes."
Luca Engstler (15, DEU, Engstler Motorsport): "We´re very pleased with the weekend so far. The first session went well, and after making a change to the setup, I was able to move up to 18th in the second session – a great result for us. In qualifying, though, we took a bit of a gamble and didn´t get it 100 percent right. Added to which, I made a brief excursion into the gravel on my fastest lap. Tomorrow, it will be dry, and after a day of testing here we have an idea regarding the setup, so I´m feeling optimistic."
Marylin Niederhauser (20, CHE, Race Performance): "Qualifying was not easy because of the numerous interruptions. This was the first time I´ve ever driven on this track, and the rain made the situation even more difficult. I didn´t get into the right rhythm and had trouble warming up the tyres. I expect tomorrow to be another tricky day. Without any testing opportunities in the dry, we have to try to get the setup as good as we can and to make the best of the situation."
