ADAC Formel 4·3.10.2015

Comments on Friday : Surprises, joy and disappointment

Marvin Dienst (18, DEU, HTP F4 Junior Team UNGAR), Pole Race 1&2: "The double pole is obviously good. Much more important this weekend, however, is the fact that my championship rivals are behind me. I'll be starting on the clean side of the track, but on the outside. I would've preferred the inside. I was a bit surprised that the second group weren't able to match our times, as this is usually the faster of the two in qualifying. In the races, my team-mate Janneau and I need to figure something out. If there is a race win in this for me, I'll gladly accept it. But this weekend is all about scoring points. As long as I finish ahead of my two main opponents this weekend, the actual positions are not so important."

Janneau Esmeijer (18, NLD, HTP F4 Junior Team UNGAR): "Qualifying went really well. I waited a while for the new tyres, so they're a little fresher. Our pace in the race should be good, and I'm obviously hoping to secure my maiden win. At the same time, I certainly shan't make any stupid manoeuvres that could damage Marvin's chances. He's my team-mate and currently leads the championship, so I don't intend to risk a collision."

Joel Eriksson (17, SWE, Motopark): "Qualifying went really well compared to the tests and practice. We found something out just now, and the adjustment worked well. I was second in my group but couldn't do a thing against the HTP cars. From my starting position, I can at least use slipstreaming down to the Parabolica and hope that wins me a few positions."

David Beckmann (15, DEU, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport): "My qualifying was okay, and I'm only three tenths down on Marvin Dienst in the end. I would, though, have preferred to finish in front of my team-mate. I was a bit surprised that the second group couldn't beat our times, because they had better track conditions - but I'm certainly not complaining! In the race, I'll try to overtake him and hope to secure victory in the rookie classification."

Joey Mawson (19, AUS, Van Amersfoort Racing): "My car was really good in qualifying. I have my team to thank for that. Unfortunately, I was hindered a little by traffic on my last two laps. Pole would still not have been possible, but otherwise I could have moved up the field a position. I'll now start behind my two championship rivals. Races are always unpredictable, and I'll fight to work my way forwards, but the title has moved further out of reach as a result of Marvin's pole. I'm going to focus on finishing runner-up in the championship. That's achievable and realistic."

Jason Kremer (20, DEU, Team Timo Scheider): "I was second in my group for a time, and that would have been a realistic result, but unfortunately, I made a mistake in the last turn on my final lap. I'm a bit disappointed, but I know at least that I can go even faster. We are well placed and have been able to keep pace for the first time in the dry. Development has been right, but obviously, finding that last little spark is now tough."

Job van Uitert (16, NLD, Provily Racing): "Qualifying certainly didn't go to plan. It's really strange that I was fifth in practice and now I'm 27th on the grid. I hope it was the car and not me. I can't explain this step backwards, because the lap felt good, and I thought I'd achieved the maximum. I hope that we can solve these problems, because my goal in Hockenheim is to finish in the points."

Max Hofer (16, AUT, Lechner Racing): "Basically, we'd expected much more. We recently tested at Hockenheim and were 1.5 seconds off the pace. Now, it's about three seconds. We're getting nowhere near the test times and have no explanation for it, so we've not got much hope for the race."

Kim Luis Schramm (18, DEU, Neuhauser Racing): "Practice went really well this morning, and we were running old tyres as well. We switched to new ones in the second session, and things were better. Qualifying went quite well with grid position twelve for both races. I still had a bit of traffic, and more was possible. However, it was definitely better than in practice."

Moritz Müller-Crepon (18, CHE, Jenzer Motorsport): "Things didn't go well even during testing. I was a bit faster today, but not fast enough. I could close the gap but was unable to really get the power down on fresh tyres. Things should go better in the race tomorrow, because I enjoy it much more."
