ADAC Formel 4·24.4.2015

Comments on qualifying: In qualifying, everything went perfectly

Kim Luis Schramm (17, Wolfsberg, Neuhauser Racing): "I just couldn't get the perfect lap together in qualifying. The individual sector times were promising, but unfortunately a few minor errors let me down. I wanted to be up with the front-runners at all costs, and so I may have overdone it. But as regards the race, I'm feeling optimistic. I've been able to gather a lot of racing experience in the past two years, and that will certainly stand me in good stead."

Michael Waldherr (18, Ruderting, Motopark): "I never expected to be starting in this position and moreover to be the best driver in our squad. In qualifying, everything went perfectly. The setup was just right to get the best out of the tyre at its peak. In addition, I posted a good lap at just the right time. I am very excited about the start of the first race - my good grid position will certainly help."

Leon Wippersteg (18, Kirchlengern, Team Timo Scheider): "I'm quite satisfied with my first ADAC Formula 4 qualifying. I went into it with moderate expectations and tried to do my best. I was able to warm the tyres up quite well, but unfortunately I made a small mistake. All the same, compared to the tests, I've made up a lot of ground on the leaders. The improvement was clear to see. Overall, the car went very well and the balance was great. In the race, my strategy must be to steer clear of all incidents and wait for the field to spread out."

Cedric Piro (17, Heusweiler, Piro Sports): "I had been counting on a place in the Top Ten. Unfortunately, that didn't materialise. But I'm still in the learning process and the competition is strong. In the race, I would just like to get by OK and maybe win a few positions at the start. In such a large field of starters, a bit of luck certainly helps. I can't be sure whether a wet race might be to my advantage, but it would be interesting in any case."

David Kolkmann (18, Sendenhorst, Jenzer Motorsport): "Things didn't go quite as well today as I had hoped. On my fastest lap, I made a few mistakes; otherwise a significant improvement in my time would have been possible. Today, I had the first opportunity to drive the car in dry conditions and had to seek out the right racing lines. The car felt good all the time; we just have to find a little more speed."

Giorgio Maggi (17, CHE, SMG Swiss Motorsport Group): "I'm quite happy with my result, although I was hoping for something even better. We may have gone out on track a little too early, so we didn't have optimum tyres when conditions were at their best. Now I'll try to use my experience to good effect in the race. I would be quite happy if it turned out to be a wet race. If the track conditions are wet, it means that everyone is taking the high-speed corners quite slowly, which then makes overtaking easier here."

Florian Janits (17, AUT, Lechner Racing): "I'm not satisfied with my qualifying. Driving on this track is great fun, but things didn't go to plan today. We must work together closely as a team, and then I'm sure that we'll soon be somewhere up at the front. I still see good opportunities for the race itself. I was able to gain a lot of racing experience last year, and the large number of starters is nothing new. One other thing: I would be quite happy to see rain tomorrow, because in those conditions, I can do even better."

Joey Mawson (19, AUS, Van Amersfoort Racing): "Qualifying was great for me. After free practice, I was thinking I might get a Top Five result, but in fact it turned out to be P2 and P3. I think the second qualifying group had the slightly better conditions, but I made the most of the opportunity with my best time. I think I'm in with a good chance for the race itself. My team has provided me with a very good car, and we are well prepared for all conditions."

Luca Engstler (15, Wildpoldsried, Engstler Motorsport): "We achieved our objective: qualifying for the race. I have had only a few days of testing in this car and therefore wanted to approach this first weekend in a realistic frame of mind. The important thing is to put in as many kilometres as possible and to carry on gaining experience. My feeling is generally very positive. We have been able to steadily improve the setup of the car, and it feels great now. I won't take any unnecessary risks in the race."
