Marvin Dienst (18, DEU, HTP Junior Team), Winner: "My second win in the second race - perfect. But I definitely have to work on my starts. Losing two places from pole position is two too many. On the restart, I then drove quite quickly back up into second place and had Joel in my sights. He didn't make things easy for me, because he knows exactly where the best places to overtake are. I had to come up with something new, put pressure on him and lead him into making a mistake. I was even a little surprised at how quickly my tactic worked. I have to say a big 'thank you' to my team, because our speed is incredible and the car is perfect. The target for tomorrow is to make it a hat-trick. Overtaking here is incredibly difficult, but nothing is impossible."
Joel Eriksson (17, SWE, Motopark), Second: "My start was really good and I immediately pulled out a small lead. I also did well on the restart after the red flag, but the understeer that was causing me problems in the first race was still there. That made it impossible to keep Marvin behind me. We were the fastest drivers, and we both drew away from the field. However, our car was slightly down on straight-line speed by comparison. We now need to keep up the pressure and work hard to attack again in the third race on Sunday."
Joey Mawson (19, AUS, Van Amersfoort Racing), Third: "I'm pleased to be back on the podium after a tough weekend at the Nürburgring, but we've still got some work ahead of us to catch up with HTP Junior Team. I got close to Joel but lost ground on the restarts. When Marvin finally closed the gap, I didn't make things too difficult for either of us. He was clearly a lot faster and would have eventually overtaken anyway, since I had to contend with heavy oversteer. This result has enabled me to consolidate my third place in the championship. I've not yet given up all hope of lifting the title. There are still seven more opportunities, and I'm just taking each race as it comes."
Mick Schumacher (16, DEU, Van Amersfoort Racing), best-placed rookie: "I got off to a good start and that was the basis for the race. My car was perfect throughout. Many thanks to my team for having done such a great job. We are back and we scored a good result in today's first race. I am very happy about this. Now it's all a matter of keeping calm for the remaining two races and getting the best result."
David Beckmann (15, DEU, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport): "I'm pleased to be best rookie. I took the lead in the rookie championship in Race 1 and have now extended it. My restart after the race was red-flagged was OK, and I held on to fifth position. Unfortunately, I couldn't overtake Kim Luis in front of me, though Tim, who was behind me, didn't really get close. I'm satisfied with the result but hope maybe to be one of the Top Three tomorrow and finish on the podium."
Michael Waldherr (18, DEU, Motopark): Because qualifying was so difficult, the races were mainly about damage limitation and picking up some points. In the first race, we were struggling with understeer, so the front tyres suffered as a result. Consequently, we made a big adjustment in the opposite direction for the afternoon, and the balance was then a lot better. We opted for scrubbed tyres in the second race, which made it difficult to get past our opponents. However, the advantage for Sunday will be that we have new tyres, which could be particularly important starting from pole position."
Kim Luis Schramm (18, DEU, Neuhauser Racing): "Our speed was really good today. I the first race, I was in P5 and attempted an attack on Joey Mawson. In the overtaking manoeuvre, he must have caught my rear tyre, because I then developed a puncture. That dropped me down to ninth. In the second race, though, I managed a P4 finish, and my lap times were again very strong."
Michelle Halder (16, DEU, Michelle Halder): "The free practice and qualifying sessions on Friday were held in the wet, and I didn't get much driving time either. In the circumstances, my grid positions weren't at all bad. However, I didn't get off to a perfect start in the first race. All things considered, a P20 finish is really super. In the second race, I managed to post faster times than some of the cars ahead of me after the safety car was deployed. But because of an error on my part, the gap got very big. My lap times were really good and I was able to make up some of the deficit. It's a shame that the result doesn't reflect the actual speed. But starting from P20 on Sunday, I still reckon I can get something out of the race."
David Kolkmann (18, DEU, Jenzer Motorsport): "Although I got off to a good start in the first race, I still conceded two positions. Also, I made a small error on the final corner. When the safety car pulled into the pit lane, I managed to work my way up to 15th. The car was very fast, which was also apparent in the afternoon. But in the second race, I had a bad feeling about the clutch which was then confirmed. I was more or less able to hold on to my position and finished the race in P16. I have two more new tyres for Sunday, and I'm hoping for a good race from 15th on the grid."
Toni Wolf (16, DEU, Toni Wolf): "I got off to a good start in Race 1 and set off on a charge up the field. Just before the end, I was up to P15 when there was a slight contact with an opponent which was enough to spin me round. I crossed the finish line in 23rd position, which I obviously wasn't satisfied with. I got away OK in the second race and was able to post laps that were consistently as good as those of my opponents, and occasionally better. I'm quite satisfied with P14. Now I'm hoping for a bit more luck and success tomorrow."
Giorgio Maggi (17, CH, Race Performance): "I was pushing too hard in the first race. I strayed into the dirt and skidded off the track. As a result, my car sustained some damage, and it became a race against time to get it mended for the afternoon. My team succeeded in sending me out onto the track at the very last minute, though without any setup preparations. A big 'thank you' to the guys for doing such a great job! Driving wasn't easy, and I can feel reasonably satisfied with P17."
Janneau Esmeijer (18, NED, HTP Junior Team): "Today just wasn't my day. In the first race, my pace was really good. I was already up to P5 and was significantly faster than the two cars ahead of me. Unfortunately, I was involved in a collision and forced to retire. Otherwise, I think that a podium might have been achievable. In the second race, I immediately gained six positions and attempted to overtake two more on the outside. Unfortunately, I was a bit too optimistic, and it resulted in a collision. The race was over for me, and valuable points were lost."
Job van Uitert (16, NED, Provily Racing): "I couldn't take part in the first race because of an engine change. The second race was therefore my first experience of driving on the Sachsenring in dry conditions. I drifted a bit too wide on Turn 3 and lost some positions. That cost me a better race result. After that, I got stuck behind some slower opponents. I didn't have the speed for overtaking in the first sector, and there was no way past in the infield. I'm going to be at a big disadvantage on Sunday through having missed that first race."
