Opening session to ADAC Formula 4 finale. The last three races of the 2015 inaugural season are being staged this weekend at the Hockenheimring, and everyone is particularly keen to find out who will lift the first championship title. Marvin Dienst (18, DEU, HTP F4 Junior Team UNGAR) underscored his claim to the title in the first practice session on Friday afternoon. The championship leader posted fastest time in first practice. Dienst set his personal best time of 1:40.540 minutes in front of a home crowd.
Strong start for HTP F4 junior team UNGAR: Dienst's team-mate Janneau Esmeijer (18, NLD, HTP F4 Junior Team UNGAR) finished in second place on the timesheet. The Dutchman covered the historic Hockenheim circuit in 1:40.871 minutes on his best lap.
Dienst's title rivals took things a little steadier at the start. The third-placed driver in the championship, Joey Mawson (19, AUS, Van Amersfoort Racing) was eighth. Dienst's closest rival, Joel Eriksson (17, SWE, Motopark) slotted into tenth place. Mick Schumacher (16, DEU/CHE, Van Amersfoort Racing) placed ninth, splitting the two title contenders. The son of F1 world championship record holder Michael Schumacher posted a 1:41.668 on his fastest lap.
David Beckmann (15, DEU, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) set the third fastest lap time of 1:41.335 minutes, finishing well down on the leading pair of drivers fielded by HTP F4 Junior Team UNGAR. The 15-year-old is fighting a number of other juniors, including Schumacher, for victory in the Rookie championship at Hockenheim.
Michael Waldherr (19, DEU, Motopark) as best-placed Motopark driver and young Dutch teenager Job van Uitert (16, NLD, Provily Racing) placed fourth and fifth respectively. Apart from Mawson and Schumacher, a third Van Amersfoort Racing driver, Harrison Newey (17, GBR, Van Amersfoort Racing), also came home in the Top Ten. The son of famous Formula 1 designer Adrian Newey was sixth.
