Dienst keeps cool head in second practice: Top Ten finish within half a second

The ADAC Formula 4 is expecting what will probably be the hottest weekend of the year at the Lausitzring. The 34 ADAC High-Speed Academy drivers went out on track for the second session in 33-degree heat. Marvin Dienst (18, GER, HTP Juniorteam) kept a cool head in the heated battle for the ‘half-time´ championship. Dienst, who is fourth in the championship, secured the fastest time in the second session at noon on Friday.

Dienst posted a 1:22.625 at the chequered flag on his fastest lap, having set two sector best times. David Beckmann (15, GER, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) slotted into second place and was again the best-placed of all the rookies. Beckmann had finished third in the opening round of this home fixture for his team, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport, but in the second session, the 15-year-old covered the circuit in 1:22.727 minutes on his fastest lap to finish just 0.102 seconds behind Dienst in the lead.

Mawson third after best time earlier

Joey Mawson (19, AUS, Van Amersfoort Racing) was the quickest in practice in the opening session but slotted into third position this time. The Van Amersfoort Racing youngster had been the only driver to crack 1:22 in first practice but his personal best time in the second session was 1:22.773 minutes. Fourth place went to Piro Sports youngster Cedric Piro (17, GER, Piro Sports), who led for much of the session.

Championship leader Joel Eriksson (17, SWE, Motopark) was ranked eighth on the timesheet behind Janneau Esmeijer (18, NED, HTP junior team), Michael Waldherr (18 GER, Motopark) and Robert Shwartzman (15, RUS, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport). Having amassed 138 points, the Swedish teenager has the best chance of becoming the first ‘half-time´ champion in the history of ADAC Formula 4. Nikolaj Rogivue (18, CHE, SMG Swiss Motorsport Group) and Harrison Newey (16, GBR, Van Amersfoort Racing) completed the Top Ten, who were all covered by less than half a second.
