The second race weekend of ADAC Formula 4´s 2015 debut season is under way. The races of the ADAC High Speed Academy are being staged outside of Germany´s borders for the first time, as rounds four, five and six are set to take place at Austria´s Red Bull Ring. Robert Shwartzman (15, RUS, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) produced the first surprise of the weekend in FP1 on Friday morning, posting a best time of 1:32.714 minutes.
Schwartzman went to the top of the timesheets in the second stint of the session. The kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport driver subsequently improved his own lap time, consigning Motopark duo Joel Eriksson (17, SWE, Motopark) and Michael Waldherr (18 GER, Motopark) to second and third place respectively. Eriksson, who was in P1 for quite a time, needed 1: 32.935 minutes for his best lap in Spielberg. His deficit on Shwartzman in the lead was 0.221 seconds. Motopark team-mate Waldherr slotted into third place behind him, trailing by just one hundredth of a second.
Top 14 covered by one second
Ralf Aron took fourth position in first practice. Placed second overall in the championship, he was only 0.245 seconds off the pace. Things were close in the 39-car strong field throughout the session. The top 14 drivers were covered by less than a second. Aron´s Prema Powerteam teammate Zhou Guan Yu (16, ITA, Prema Powerteam) was fifth with a personal best time of 1: 33.119 minutes.
Marcel Lenerz (17, GER, Lechner Racing) finished sixth in the home race of his team, Lechner Racing from Salzburg. David Beckmann (15, GER, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport), contesting his first ADAC Formula 4 race weekend, placed behind the 17-year-old. Joey Mawson (19, AUS, Van Amersfoort Racing), Kim Luis Schramm (17, GER, Neuhauser Racing), driving for Neuhauser Racing from Tyrol, and Marek Böckmann (18, GER, Jenzer Motorsport) completed the Top Ten.
