ADAC Formel 4·21.7.2015

Four questions for Mike Ortmann: Giving 120 percent in every single race

Who is your role model in motorsport?

My role model is Sebastian Vettel. He has followed the same path as us, first in karting and then in single-seater racing. He's had to fight hard for everything along the way. I find it really impressive that he managed the step up to Formula 1 and that he has already won the world championship four times. It's cool to know that he is patron of ADAC Formula 4. It´s obviously difficult to compare the racing series I´m in with Formula 1, but I often look at how he uses his opportunities and performs certain overtaking manoeuvres.

Do you follow any particular rituals on a race weekend?

Not rituals as such. I try to remain relaxed, so as not to go into the race or even the free practice sessions feeling too nervous. Before each race weekend, I do some extra jogging to increase my stamina and to be fit for the race.

Why did you decide to enter ADAC Formula 4?

The move from karting to formula racing was the logical next step in my motorsport career. I got the chance of a cockpit at Mücke Motorsport and seized it. I had already done several days´ testing with the team for the previous Formel ADAC series, so when ADAC Formula 4 was launched, it was an easy decision to make.

ADAC Formula 4 gives drivers the opportunity to compete in three races on a single weekend. How important is it for a young driver to accumulate the track mileage?

From race to race, I´m becoming more experienced, and every single kilometre on track helps tremendously. Of course it is important to give 120 percent in every race and to be always fully focused. In a series as competitive as ADAC Formula 4, every single mistake is going to cost you a lot of places. I want to improve myself in every race, and the volume of information that I can gather every single weekend plays an invaluable role.
