Lucerne-based SMG Swiss Motorsport Group AG has announced its participation in this year's newly implemented ADAC Formula 4 championship. The Swiss group of companies was founded at the end of 2014. Jörn Becker, Formula 1 engineer and co-proprietor, fills the position of CEO.
SMG will continue the successful work of JBR Motorsport & Engineering GmbH in Formula 4. At the end of last season JBR was amongst the successful teams in German Formula 3 and ADAC Formula Masters with victories and podium finishes. In only the second season of the team's history, JBR could establish itself in the German junior racing scene.
Sustaining JBR's path, SMG is going to focus on the education of young talents by resorting to highly qualified employees of different racing categories and of a selected partner. By means of a well-established network ambitious talents will be offered good perspectives for their "year of apprenticeship" in ADAC Formula 4 and for their future career development.
The team intends the entry of 4 cars in the German championship. As with JBR, former Audi DTM and Le Mans driver Frank Jelinski is going to be team principal. Currently, two drivers have already been contracted. Interviews for filling the position of the driver for the two remaining cars are under way.
Team principal Frank Jelinski: "We are well prepared for the new Formula 4 and are looking forward to a successful season. We are aiming to fight from the beginning for victories and podium finishes in this certainly highly competitive championship. Thus, we are working intensely with our drivers offering the best possible and most comprehensive formation."
