Three rookies out in front: Juan Manuel Correa (16, USA, Ecuador, Prema Powerteam), Nicklas Nielsen (19, Denmark, Neuhauser Racing) and Richard Verschoor (15, Netherlands, Motopark) booked the top three places in the ADAC Formula 4 practice session at the Nürburgring. Championship contenders Joey Mawson (20, Australia, Van Amersfoort Racing) and Mick Schumacher (17, Germany, Prema Powerteam) followed them home in P6 and P17.
Correa was fastest this Friday morning with a time of 1:27.876 minutes, crossing the line just ahead of Nielsen and Verschoor. ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Mike David Ortmann (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV) and another rookie, Felipe Drugovich (16, Brazil, Neuhauser Racing), finished behind the three drivers in the lead.
The field was tightly bunched as usual. Mawson (1:28.083) in sixth place was only marginally faster than ADAC Sports Foundation protégée Sophia Flörsch (15, Germany, Motopark) and Kami Laliberté (16, Canada, Van Amersfoort Racing). Simo Laaksonen (17, Finland, Motopark), who secured his maiden win in the ADAC Formula 4 two weeks ago at the Red Bull Ring and ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Jannes Fittje (17, Germany, US Racing) completed the Top Ten. Schumacher in 17th position was just under two tenths of a second behind the tenth-placed driver.
The ADAC High Speed Academy will stage two more 25-minute practice sessions this Friday at 11:05 and 14:20. The junior drivers will get down to the serious business of qualifying split into two groups at 9:40 and 10:05 on Saturday and line up for the 16th race of the season at 14.50 which will be broadcast live by Germany's biggest sports channel. Race 17 and 18 will be staged on Sunday at 10:30 and 14:50.
