Joey Mawson (20, Australia, Van Amersfoort Racing) set a fastest time of 01:27.575 minutes in the second free practice session of the ADAC Formula 4 weekend at the Nürburgring. This was an improvement on FP1 when the Australian was only sixth fastest with a time of 1:28.083 minutes. The championship leader's name went up on the timesheets a good tenth of a second ahead of ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Mike David Ortmann (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.) and rookie Nicklas Nielsen (19, Denmark, Neuhauser Racing). They were followed by Kim-Luis Schramm (19, Germany, US Racing) and rookie Lirim Zendeli (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.).
Kami Laliberté (16, Canada, Van Amersfoort Racing) was sixth ahead of the two rookies Felipe Drugovich (16, Brazil, Neuhauser Racing) and Juan Manuel Correa (16, USA/Ecuador, Prema Powerteam). Championship contender Mick Schumacher (17, Germany, Prema Powerteam) took ninth ahead of Thomas Preining (18, Austria, Lechner Racing).
The ADAC High Speed Academy has another 25-minutes practice session starting at 14:20 this afternoon (Friday). On Saturday, they get down to the serious business of qualifying. The field will be split into two groups with sessions commencing at 9:40 and 10:05. The 16th race of the season then starts at 14:50. It will be broadcast live by Germany's biggest sports channel. Rounds 17 and 18 of the 2016 championship are scheduled for Sunday at 10:30 and 14:50 respectively.
