Finnish trainee driver Simo Laaksonen posted the fastest time in first free practice as the second season of the ADAC Formula 4 got underway in Oschersleben. Laaksonen, who drives for Team Motopark, coped best with the adverse conditions and rain on Friday morning in the Motorsport Arena and finished fastest with a time of 1:48.729 minutes. He was followed home by his Motopark team-mate Jonathan Aberdein from South Africa with a 1:48.889. ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Jannes Fittje from Kerpen-based team US Racing secured the third-fastest time of 1:50.363 in this first session. Sophia Flörsch, the ADAC Sports Foundation protégée from Team Motopark, was only marginally slower than the top three with a 1:50.451.
Another practice session will be held this morning to be followed by qualifying in the afternoon at 15:20 and 15:45 when two 20-minute qualis will be staged with drivers split into two groups. The top eleven in each group will qualify directly route for the races on Saturday and Sunday. All other drivers will get another chance in a qualifying round on Saturday (8:55 am) as they challenge for positions 23 and upwards.
Three races are on the programme for this first race weekend. Race 1 kicks off on Saturday at 2:40 pm. SPORT1 will broadcast the fixture live. The next round will be contested on Sunday at 10.10 am and broadcast live on SPORT1+. The third race is at 4.40 pm. This third fixture will be featured as a recording at 8:00 pm on SPORT1+.
