Mawson ahead in first practice: Local driver Thomas Preining and rookie Juan Manuel Correa right behind the Australian

Joey Mawson (20, Australia, Van Amersfoort Racing) posted fastest time in first practice at Spielberg. The ADAC Formula 4 championship leader was quickest in this first session at the Red Bull Ring with a time of 1:30.402 minutes, finishing just in front of local driver Thomas Preining (18, Austria, Lechner Racing), who needed 1:30.448 for his best lap. They were followed home by Juan Manuel Correa (16, USA, Ecuador, Prema Powerteam) in 1:30.604 minutes. Correa was also best-placed rookie in third place overall.

On his 17th birthday, ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Jannes Fittje (Germany, US Racing) posted a 1:30.610 to place fourth ahead of teammate Kim-Luis Schramm (19, Germany, US Racing), who set a time of 1:30.676 minutes. He was followed over the finish line by rookie Juri Vips (15, Estonia, Prema Powerteam) with a time of 1:30.677, Mick Schumacher (17, Germany, Prema Powerteam) in 1:30.741 minutes and Mike David Ortmann (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV) in 1:30.756 minutes.

Making his ADAC Formula 4 debut, Sebastian Fernandez Wahbeh (16, Venezuela, RB Racing SA) finished a solid ninth in 1:30.818 minutes ahead of rookie Yannik Brandt (15, Germany, Lechner Racing) in 1:30.860.

To prepare for Races 13, 14 and 15 of the season on Saturday and Sunday, the ADAC Formula 4 drivers will take part in second practice on Friday morning at 11:05 and in qualifying this afternoon at 15:40.
