Mick Schumacher sets fastest time in free practice: Son of record F1 world championship winner goes fastest at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben

Mick Schumacher confirmed the solid impression he made during the ADAC Formula 4 test week by setting the fastest time in free practice at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. In the opening two sessions of the second season of the junior formula series on Friday, Schumacher clocked a fastest time of 01:44.318 minutes. Schumacher, who is contesting his second ADAC Formula 4 campaign as a member of the Italian Prema Powerteam squad, was followed Kim Luis Schramm of the Kerpen-based US Racing team and Juan Manuel Correa, also of Prema Powerteam. Schramm's quickest lap took 01:44.641 minutes, while third-placed Correa posted 01:44:868 minutes on the leader board.

ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Jannes Fittje, Schramm's team-mate at US Racing, was sixth quickest in the two sessions (01:45.695). The fastest of the four female contestants was Sophia Flörsch. The ADAC Sports Foundation protégée finished free practice in eighth position on a time of 01:46.071 minutes.

Qualifying for the three Oschersleben races will be held this afternoon in two 20-minute heats starting at 15:20 and 15:45 respectively. In each case, the first eleven from each group will qualify outright for the races on Saturday and Sunday. All the other entrants get another chance to compete for the remaining places on the grid in a further qualifying round to be held at 08:55 on Saturday.

There are three races on the programme for this weekend. The action commences with Race 1 on Saturday at 14:40, which will be shown live on SPORT1. Race 2 starts at 10:10 on Sunday and will be broadcast live on sister channel SPORT1+. Race 3 at 16:40 will be shown in full at 20:00 on Sunday evening, once again on SPORT1+.
