The 18-year-old from Cape Town finished sixth in the rookie standings last year and claimed 10 Top-10 race finishes including a second-place outright at Zandvoort. However, with focus firmly set on the title chase this season, Aberdein has spent the majority of the European winter months accumulating extensive racing miles in the Formula 4 UAE Championship in the Middle East.
Team Motopark team principal Timo Rumpfkeil is thrilled to confirm Jonathan for another season and will be working closely to ensure the teenager has the best chances of being at the front more often.
"Jonathan was fast in all events last year, but as all rookies experience, it is challenging turning speed into quantifiable results," said Rumpfkeil. "2016 was a big learning curve for Jonathan; he had only come to Europe in March, he had never raced an F4 car before, and he didn't know a single race track that we were racing at. "But he is quick and impressively proved he has what it takes to win with his podium finish at Zandvoort.
"We wanted to give him the best chances for 2017 which is why we have been competing in F4UAE. He has been able to improve his skills again and we are very optimistic that we will be a factor front and centre.
"We are very happy that Jonathan is working with us in the 2017 season because we are very confident that we will get very good results together. We are all eager for the title!"
Jonathan Aberdein is the first driver to be confirmed at Team Motopark's F4 operation for 2017 and is excited to build on the strong relationship he already has with the team.
"I'm looking forward to another season of ADAC Formula 4 with Motopark in 2017," said Aberdein. "We have put in a lot of preparation over the winter and are ready to give everything this year. "My goal is to make a strong title challenge and I look forward to the exciting year ahead."
Aberdein currently leads the F4UAE Championship standings in the United Arab Emirates. The first three races of the ADAC Formula 4 season will be held in the home of Team Motopark, Oschersleben, at the end of April.
