Swiss driver Fabio Scherer (17, US Racing) set fastest time in the first free practice session of the new ADAC Formula 4 season. The 17-year-old fielded by Kerpen-based outfit, US Racing, was the fastest in the Motorsport Arena at Oschersleben with a time of 1:26.879 minutes and finished in front of his Danish team-mate, Niklas Nielsen (20). Last season's rookie champion Nielsen posted a 1:27.025 and was thus marginally faster than Lirim Zendeli (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV), who covered the circuit in a time of 1:27.089 on his fastest lap.
Felipe Drugovich (16, Brazil, Van Amersfoort Racing), Cedric Piro (19, Germany, Team Piro Interdental), Julian Hanses (19, Germany, US Racing), Marcus Armstrong (16, New Zealand, Prema Powerteam), Oliver Söderström (18, Sweden, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV) and the only female driver in the field, Sophia Flörsch (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV) completed the Top Ten.
Another 45-minute practice session will follow later this morning at 11.00 am. Qualifying, in which the fastest times will decide grid positions for the first race of the season (Saturday, 12.00 noon), is scheduled for this afternoon at 4.20 pm. The second-fastest times will determine the grid slots for the second race on Saturday at 3.45 pm. The first race weekend of the third season of the ADAC Formula 4 will end with the third race on Sunday at 11.45 am. SPORT1 and SPORT1+ will broadcast all races on TV.
