Swiss driver Fabio Scherer (18, US Racing) set the fastest time in the first practice session of the season finale at Hockenheim. Scherer took the lead in FP1 this Friday morning, posting a time of 1:40.946 minutes to consign Jonathan Aberdein (19, South Africa, Motopark) and championship contender Felipe Drugovich (17, Brazil, Van Amersfoort Racing) to second and third place respectively.
While Drugovich in P3 kept alive his hopes of lifting the title, Juri Vips (17, Estonia, Prema Powerteam) and championship leader Marcus Armstrong (17, New Zealand, Prema Powerteam) did not have a good opening session, managing only to place eleventh and fifteenth for Prema.
Frederik Vesti (15, Denmark, Van Amersfoort Racing) took P4 from Lirim Zendeli (17, Germany, ADAC Berlin Brandenburg eV), Cedric Piro (19, Germany, Team Piro Sport Interdental) and rookie champion Nicklas Nielsen (20, Denmark, US Racing). Julian Hanses (20, Germany, US Racing), Andreas Estner (17, Germany, Neuhauser Racing) and Artem Petrov (17, Russia, Van Amersfoort Racing) completed the Top Ten. Mick Wishofer (17, Austria, Lechner Racing), who leads the junior class, was best rookie again.
Second practice is at 2:05 pm, followed by qualifying early this evening at 5.55 pm. In races 19, 20 and 21 the champion will be decided this weekend. Marcus Armstrong on 220 points is currently in the lead but is only 1.5 points up on Juri Vips (218.5) and 18.5 points ahead of his other title rival, Felipe Drugovich (201.5), in third place.
