Belgian Charles Weerts to drive for Motopark: The 15-year-old intends to fight for the rookie title with the team from Oschersleben

Newcomer at Team Motopark: 15-year-old Charles Weerts intends to fight for the rookie title in the ADAC Formula 4 with the team from Oschersleben this season. Weerts, who has already had a lot of competition experience in karting, will be Motopark's second driver alongside Jonathan Aberdein. While the 19-year-old South African has his eye on the title, the young Belgian is aiming to finish as best rookie.

Weerts will be completing his first full season in a single-seater this year. He gained his first major experience in a formula racing car during two Formula 4 racing weekends in the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, which should now give him a decisive advantage over the other rookies in German Formula 4.

"We're highly delighted that Charles will be competing for us in the ADAC Formula 4. He has already had his first races with us in the Formula 4 UAE, which is terrific preparation for the European season," said Motopark team principal Timo Rumpfkeil, who is certain that the young Belgian will do well in his first year: "These races and the first tests went very well. Charles has shown potential, and he's going to be a strong rookie in the line-up."

Weerts also intends to do a fair bit during the 2017 season which kicks off with a home race in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on the weekend of 28th - 30th April: "My goal is to finish in the Top Twelve in the overall standings. And obviously, I would love to be rookie champion. Oh, and a few pole positions would be great!"
