Vesti ahead in FP1: The Danish driver from Van Amersfoort Racing finished in front of championship leader Zendeli

The Dane Frederik Vesti (16, Van Amersfoort Racing) secured the first best time of the day in the first ADAC Formula 4 practice session. With a time of 1:27.174 minutes, he was faster than both title contender Lirim Zendeli (18, Germany, US Racing CHRS) and Enzo Fittipaldi (17, Brazil, Prema Theodore Racing); 16-year-old Vesti took his first win of the season at the Hockenheimring two weeks ago while racing under the banner of the Emirates Formula 1 German Grand Prix.

Behind them came Oliver Caldwell (16, Great Britain, Prema Theodore Racing) in fourth place and Mick Wishofer (18, Austria, US Racing CHRS) in P5. David Schumacher (16, Germany, US Racing CHRS), son of ex-Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher, was best rookie. Liam Lawson (16, New Zealand, Van Amersfoort Racing), who is currently in second place in the drivers’ championship, finished seventh ahead of rookie Gianluca Petecof (15, Brazil, Prema Theodore Racing). Van Amersfoort’s Charles Weerts (17, Belgium) finished ninth fastest and rookie Joey Alders (18, Netherlands, Van Amersfoort Racing) was tenth fastest.

ADAC Formula 4 teams and drivers are back racing as support to the ADAC GT Masters. Second practice will be this afternoon at 12:45 pm and qualifying at 5:45 pm. The first real racing action will be tomorrow, Saturday, when Race 1 gets under way at 11:05 am. SPORT1 will broadcast the ADAC Formula 4 races on TV.
