ADAC Formel 4·18.5.2018

Yet another double pole for Lirim Zendeli: Championship leader dominates qualifying at Lausitzring

Lirim Zendeli (18, Germany, USA Racing CHRS) once again dominated qualifying for the ADAC Formula 4, this time at the Lausitzring. Just as he had done two weeks ago at Hockenheim, the championship leader also secured pole position for the first two races of the weekend on Saturday (10:10 and 16:40 CEST) at the Lausitzring. The first of these two best times – 01:45.108 minutes – was also the fastest lap of the entire day. Best rookie on a dry track and with temperatures hovering around the 15°C mark was David Schumacher (16, Germany, USA Racing CHRS) qualifying in P6 and P8.

“I was at the absolute limit on the last lap, and it was not quite perfect,” Zendeli said. “I intend to look out for myself, consolidate this lead, avoid accidents or retirements and score more points. I’ll obviously be annoyed with myself if I’m not first. Three podium finishes like at Hockenheim would be a dream.”

In the first race on Saturday, Zendeli, who has won four of the six races so far, will start in front of team-mate Mick Wishofer (18, Austria) and Frederik Vesti (16, Denmark, Van Amersfoort Racing). Lining up behind them will be Liam Lawson (16, New Zealand, Van Amersfoort Racing) and Charles Weerts (17, Belgium, Van Amersfoort Racing). Sixth place goes to David Schumacher ahead of Oliver Caldwell (15, Great Britain, Prema Theodore Racing) and Enzo Fittipaldi (16, Brazil, Prema Theodore Racing). Andreas Estner (17, Germany, Neuhauser Racing) and rookie Joey Alders (18, Netherlands, Van Amersfoort Racing) complete the Top Ten.

Zendeli showed nerves of steel in qualifying to also secure pole for the second race with his final lap (01:45.299 minutes). Denmark’s Vesti will start from second place. Next follow Wishofer, Caldwell, Lawson, Weerts and Fittipaldi. Schumacher completes the fourth row in eighth place ahead of Andreas Estner and Alders.

The third weekend of the 2018 ADAC Formula 4 ends with the ninth race of the season on Sunday (09:50 CEST). The result of the second race decides the order on the grid, with the Top Eight starting in reverse order. SPORT1 will be showing the races from the ADAC High-Speed Academy on TV. All races are also available as a livestream with an English commentary on adac.de/motorsport, on the Facebook page of ADAC Formula 4 and on www.youtube.com/adac.
