The leader of the overall standings, Lirim Zendeli (18, Germany, USA Racing CHRS) confirmed his fine form in the ADAC Formula 4 by qualifying in pole position for both the first (at 10.35 am) and the second race (at 3:30 pm) on Saturday after taking best time earlier in both practice sessions at Hockenheim.

"It was like a fairytale. Everything went just right. I've never had such a great car. It was like being a passenger - it all fell into place by itself," said a delighted Zendeli. "I'm definitely aiming to extend my lead in the championship. I'm ahead by five points and would like to win the first two races as I did at Oschersleben."

In bright sunshine in the first qualifying session, 18-year-old Zendeli covered the Hockenheimring circuit in the fastest time of 1:41.140 minutes, finishing ahead of team-mate Mick Wishofer (18, Austria, US Racing CHRS). Last year's rookie champion had a deficit of 0.289 seconds.

The second row will be headed up by Liam Lawson (16, New Zealand, Van Amersfoort Racing) and Oliver Caldwell (15, Great Britain, Prema Theodore Racing), who took victory in the third race at Oschersleben. Behind them are Charles Weerts (17, Netherlands, Van Amersfoort Racing) and Enzo Fittipaldi (16, Brazil, Prema Theodore Racing), grandson of two-time Formula 1 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi. Rookie Niklas Krütten (15, Germany, ADAC Berlin Brandenburg eV) and Frederik Vesti (16, Denmark, Van Amersfoort Racing) share the fourth row, followed in P9 by David Schumacher (16, Germany, US Racing CHRS), the son of ex-Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher, and Leonardo Lorandi (17, Italy, KDC Racing) in P10.

In qualifying for the second race at Hockenheim, Zendeli even managed to beat his personal best time of 1:41.009 from the first race by a tenth. Lawson secured the grid position next to him after finishing 0.375 seconds down. Vesti and Weerts will be behind them on the second row followed by Schumacher and Wishofer. Petecof and guest starter Jack Doohan (15, Australia, Prema Theodore Racing), son of five-time world motorcycling champion Mick Doohan, will line up in P7 and 8 respectively. Krütten and Fittipaldi complete the Top Ten.

The third race on Sunday at 10.40 am will bring this second race weekend of the ADAC Formula 4's fourth to a close. The order on the grid for this race will be determined by the result of the second round and the Top Eight from Race 2 will line up in reverse order.
