ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV will line up with three drivers in the ADAC Formula 4 in 2019. Three promising young motor racing talents - Joshua Duerksen from Paraguay, the German Nico Göhler and his namesake Nico Gruber from Austria - will drive for the team from Berlin. All three will be embarking on their rookie year with BWT Mücke Motorsport. Christian Klien, Robert Kubica, Sebastian Vettel, Markus Winkelhock and Sébastien Buemi, who eventually became Formula 1 drivers, all took their first steps in motor racing aided by the talent factory from Berlin. The team currently race in the ADAC GT Masters, the ADAC Formula 4 and the Italian Formula 4 Championship. The ADAC Formula 4 will get its fifth season underway at Oschersleben on the weekend of 26th - 28th April. All races will be televised live on Sport1 and online.
The Austrian Nico Gruber's DNA was imprinted with the motor racing gene by his father, Sascha Martinz-Plöderl, a former touring car world championship driver. In 2018, the 17-year-old graduated to formula racing and made his way across the Channel to contest the British Formula Ford 1600, winning the Rookie title. Last autumn, he produced an impressive performance in Formula 4 testing with BWT Mücke Motorsport at Monza's legendary Autodrome. "I'm so pleased to be given the opportunity to line up this season with such an experienced, successful team. It's a big challenge for me, but I'll do my best, as always," said Gruber. Team Manager, Frank Lucke, also thinks that Nico has the maturity and class to do well this season.
His namesake, 15-year-old German driver, Nico Göhler, is another newcomer to active competition in motorsport. He has been a trainee at the All-Sports Racing School in Mallorca since 2014 where he concentrated on karting for the first two years. He successfully made the switch to single-seaters in 2017, undergoing an intensive training programme in Formula 4 racing cars. He has been on several test days with BWT Mücke Motorsport since last October. He currently competes in the 2019 Formula 4 UAE (United Arab Emirates) where he has already achieved some success, finishing third on the podium for the first time in the fourth race.
Joshua Duerksen from Paraguay started his motor racing career at the age of 11, becoming national champion in his first year in karting. He posted his first test kilometres in formula racing in 2017 and has already successfully completed his first races for BWT Mücke Motorsport. He has so far taken four wins, seven podiums and two pole positions in the Formula 4 UAE which is still ongoing. He will compete in both the Italian and German Formula 4 series.
