After contesting his first year in ADAC Formula 4 in 2018, Ido Cohen is set to continue his career in the German junior racing series. In 2019, the young Israeli will be competing for the illustrious Netherlands-based Van Amersfoort outfit in the German as well as the parallel Italian series. Cohen made his debut in 2018 as a member of the ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. squad, an offshoot of the Berlin-based Mücke racing stable. He posted a number of respectable results and finished sixth in the Best Rookie classification.
The management at Van Amersfoort Racing are confident that Cohen will take a further significant step forward this year, especially as the 17-year-old has now made a one-hundred-percent commitment to his motorsport career. "Leaving your home comfort zone at such a young age calls for a lot of courage," says Rob Niessink, CEO of Van Amersfoort Racing. "Ido has shown some of his potential in 2018, but we believe there is more waiting to be tapped. We will support him with all of our knowledge and expertise."
Now 17 years old, Ido left his home in Ramat Gan near Tel Aviv at the age of 13 to realise his dream of becoming a racing professional. After four years of contesting various European kart championships, he made his debut in single-seater racing in 2018.
In 2019, Cohen will be returning to racetracks with which he is now familiar and has consequently set himself ambitious goals for the upcoming campaign. "After my formula racing debut in 2018, I intend to take it to the next level in 2019. I am proud to be competing in the black and orange livery of Van Amersfoort Racing. They are one of the best racing outfits in terms of professional Formula 4 participation, and this gives me great confidence. I cannot wait for the start of the season."
The fifth ADAC Formula 4 season gets underway on 26th April when the circuit at Oschersleben hosts the first three races. The ADAC High-Speed Academy calendar features seven race weekends, the last one of which is scheduled for late September at the Sachsenring.
