Dennis Hauger comfortably won the second ADAC Formula 4 race at the Hockenheimring once again. The Red Bull Junior fielded by Van Amersfoort Racing dominated the race on Sunday morning and improved to take second place in the standings. Overall leader Théo Pourchaire (US Racing CHRS) finished out of the points after a poor start and was twelfth. Ahead of the third race at 5.00 pm, the French teenager now has a lead of just 18 points on Hauger, who also won the first race on Saturday.
"We've closed the gap a little in the championship. We had some tough races earlier in the year, but Lady Luck is now smiling on us this weekend," said Hauger with delight. "Pourchaire has been very consistent so far this season. We just want to achieve the maximum this weekend. Our pace is good, so I feel confident about the third race," he added.
Hauger got off to a perfect start and quickly drew away in the lead. Neither Pourchaire nor Paul Aron (Prema Powerteam) behind him got off the line well and dropped back to the rear of the field. "I tried too hard at the start and absolutely messed up. I was left trailing after that," said Pourchaire: "I did my utmost to finish in the points, but unfortunately, it didn't work out."
Prema driver Gianluca Petecof slotted into place behind Hauger and easily maintained his position during the race. Arthur Leclerc (US Racing CHRS) won the battle for third place on the podium and is also in P3 in the championship with a 20-point deficit on Pourchaire.
"I knew before the race that it's not over until the fat lady sings, since anything can happen in the ADAC Formula 4. We've got the pace," said Leclerc. Joshua Dürksen (ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.) in fourth place was best Rookie.
Oliver Rasmussen from Prema Powerteam took eighth place and with it, pole position for Race 3. The top eight drivers from the second race start the third race in reverse order, so he will line up in front of Ido Cohen and Sebastian Estner (both Van Amersfoort Racing) while Michael Belov completes the second row for R-ace GP. Leclerc will be sixth on the grid, Hauger eighth. Pourchaire will be in twelfth place in view if his last race result.
