ADAC Formel 4·27.9.2019

Hauger leads in changeable conditions: Norwegian catches Petecof shortly before end

Conditions were tough for the second ADAC Formula 4 practice session at the Sachsenring, but 16-year-old Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing) set fastest time. He lapped the 3.65-km circuit with a 1:20.590 just before the end of the session, consigning Brazil's Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam) to second place. Petecof was 0.138 seconds slower than Hauger. Russia's Michael Belov (R-ace GP), who had been fastest in FP1, took P3 from overall championship leader, Theo Pourchaire (US Racing CHRS). So in the battle for the title between Red Bull Junior Hauger and Pourchaire, the Norwegian took the first match point. Arthur Leclerc, who also still has a realistic chance of winning the championship in third place overall, finished seventh.

The drivers of the ADAC High-Speed Academy were faced with very variable conditions during the session. The track was dry initially at the start of practice, but it began to rain after just a few minutes, ending the chase for best times temporarily. Still, it's important that the juniors gain experience in the wet. It was not until shortly before the end of practice that conditions improved enough to enable drivers to better their times. Qualifying at 5.40 pm should be really exciting.
