Van Amersfoort Racing first and second in FP2 at the Red Bull Ring: Jak Crawford clocked the fastest lap in a time of 1:41.938 minutes on a track that was drying up. The Red Bull Junior relegated championship leader Jonny Edgar to second place by a margin of 0.135 seconds. Having set the fastest time in the first practice session, Joshua Dürksen finished third, 0.177 seconds behind Crawford. This particular trio now rank as favourites for the two 15-minute qualifying sessions (start time 16:40 CEST) which will decide the grid for the first two races of the weekend.
French teenager Victor Bernier of the R-ace GP team came closest to matching the pace of the Top Three, ending the session 0.271 seconds adrift. Bernier’s team-mate Kirill Smal finished fifth, with Josef Knopp of the Czech Republic six tenths behind in sixth. The four squad members of regular team championship winners US Racing had a relatively anonymous session, finishing in the rear half of the field. Russia’s Vladislav Lomko, who celebrated his first victory at the Nürburgring on the previous race weekend, came eighth as the best of the Kerpen racing team contingent, almost a full second shy of Crawford’s best time.
After qualifying late on Friday afternoon, the talented youngsters of the ADAC High-Speed Academy will contest the usual three races over the remainder of the weekend. The first race on Saturday starts at 11:40 CEST. The other two will take place on Sunday (09:55 and 16:05).
