The ADAC Formula 4 got the first race weekend of the 2020 season under way at the Lausitzring on Friday afternoon. Just two weeks after the test drives at this same venue, the American, Jak Crawford, topped the timesheet for FP1. The 15-year-old Red Bull Junior from Van Amersfoort Racing covered the Lausitzring track in a time of 1:22.331 minutes, making him 0.351 seconds faster than Frenchman, Victor Bernier, from R-ace GP. Joshua Dürksen from ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV came home in third place, just 13 thousandths behind Bernier. Dürksen finished third in last year's Rookie classification and is the only entrant still remaining from the 2019 cohort.
Conditions were very hot and summery as 15-year-old rookie, Oliver Bearman, finished fourth, half-a- second down on best time. He had set best time of anyone over the two days of testing. Championship-winning team, US Racing, then promptly signed the British teenager for at least the opening weekend at the Lausitzring. Fellow Brit, Jonny Edgar, who also managed to impress during the test drives, booked P5; The second Red Bull Junior in the field was 0.606 seconds down on Van Amersfoort team-mate, Crawford.
The Russian, Artem Lobanenko, from R-ace GP was sixth just behind Edgar in an ADAC High-Speed Academy field that was hard-fought as expected. Fellow Russian, US Racing's Vlad Lomko, finished seventh. Sponsored by the ADAC Sports Foundation, Tim Tramnitz from Germany took the chequered flag in P8. He also drives for US Racing. The action at the Lausitzring will start early for the ADAC Formula 4 drivers on Saturday with FP2 at 8.15 am to be followed by qualifying later in the morning. The first of three races is scheduled to kick off at 2.45 pm. The other two races will be held on Sunday.
Every weekend, SPORT1 will feature at least one race live on free-to-air television. Racing can also be watched on SPORT1+. All races will be available online as live stream with German and English commentary on SPORT1.de, youtube.com/adac and adac.de/motorsport.
