American teenager in superb form at the Lausitzring: Jak Crawford set the fastest time in both qualifying sessions of the ADAC Formula 4 to make sure of P1 on the grid for the first two races of the season. The 15-year-old Red Bull Junior from Van Amersfoort Racing has booked pole position for both Race 1 on Saturday afternoon (14:45 CEST) and Race 2 on Sunday morning (11:15 CEST). In the third race on Sunday afternoon (15:30 CEST), the starting grid for the first eight will be the reverse of the finishing order in race two.
Crawford, who secured pole position for the first race with a time of 1:22.687 minutes, clearly suffered no ill effects from missing out on much of the second free practice session a few hours earlier. Rookie Oliver Bearman (15), who was signed by US Racing only a few days before the race weekend after his convincing performance in the tests, was only 0.037 seconds off claiming pole and will start from second place. On the second row in third and fourth respectively will be Crawford’s team-mate Jonny Edgar (16) and Joshua Dürksen (16) of ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg. Finland’s Elias Seppänen (16) and ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Tim Tramnitz (15) meanwhile booked Row 3 for US Racing.
The second session was briefly halted for a red flag, but after that the Van Amersfoort Racing contingent began to make their mark. First it was English teenager Edgar’s turn to top the timesheets, but Crawford posted a lap time of 1:22.332 minutes to ensconce himself in the top spot. Bearman missed out on the front row of the grid in the second qualifying session and will start the race from P3 alongside French 16-year-old Victor Bernier. The two US Racing youngsters Tramnitz and Vlad Lomko (15) occupy the third row of the grid.
