Joshua Dürksen set best time to get the ADAC Formula 4 race weekend under way at the Hockenheimring. The 16-year-old German driver from ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV posted a time of 1:41.843 minutes on his fastest lap, which was 0.047 seconds quicker than Prema Powerteam’s Gabriele Mini. Frenchman Victor Bernier (R-ace GP) came third in the dry conditions with a deficit of 0.122 seconds on best time. FP2 is scheduled to take place at 13.35 CET, and the young talents will be back out on track for qualifying in the ADAC High-Speed Academy later this afternoon.
In a closely-fought session, championship leader Jonny Edgar from Great Britain came fourth on the timesheets just ahead of Tim Tramnitz and Germany’s Francesco Pizzi. Sebastian Montoya, the son of ex-Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya, came home in seventh place in front of Prema team-mate, Dino Beganovic. Oliver Bearman (US Racing) from Great Britain and the American Jak Crawford completed the Top Ten. Newcomer Hamda Al Qubaisi, the only female driver in the field, made a good debut in the ADAC Formula 4. She is the daughter of GT racing driver, Khaled Al Qubaisi, and was almost nine tenths of a second adrift of best time in first practice and booked 14th place.
