Jonny Edgar set to drive for Van Amersfoort: The Red Bull Junior will contest the whole of the ADAC's Formula 4 programme in 2020

Van Amersfoort Racing will field British Red Bull Junior Jonny Edgar during the new ADAC Formula 4 season. He first appeared in the ADAC High-Speed Academy as a guest driver last year and will compete in both the German and Italian series for the famous Dutch outfit.

Motor racing is firmly entrenched in the DNA of Jonny Edgar’s family, as his grandfather, father and uncle have all been winners in the past on both two and four wheels. Jonny made the move into Formula 4 in 2019, gaining his first experience of the series. He intends to establish himself as a top driver this year.

The sixth season of the ADAC series for juniors will kick off on the weekend of the 24th-26th of April in Oschersleben and will encompass seven weekends, featuring 21 rounds. SPORT1 will broadcast all of the races. Racing can also be followed online as live stream on various digital platforms.

“2019 was my first year in Formula 4 and I enjoyed every minute of it,” said the young British driver from Whitehaven in the north-west of England. He will celebrate his 16th birthday next month in February and is already looking forward to his debut season with VAR. “I will have to prove my ability simultaneously in two of the toughest F4 championships around this year but am more than ready to face the challenge. I have every confidence in Van Amersfoort Racing and really felt at home during winter testing.”

The 15-year-old will be a Van Amersfoort Racing team member but will not compete in the outfit’s usual black and orange overalls this season. Instead, he will wear the colours of Red Bull’s Junior Team, to which he belongs following his many successes in karting at an international level during 2017.

“We have had our eye on Jonny for some time now and are delighted to have him on board this season,” said VAR CEO, Rob Niessink. “He’s now ready to fight for podiums after completing his first season in F4 last year. Jonny can count on the team’s support. We both have one goal in common, to win championships!”

The well-established Van Amersfoort Racing outfit was founded way back in 1975 by Frits van Amersfoort and has already helped drivers like Max and Jos Verstappen, Giedo van der Garde and Charles Leclerc make their way into Formula 1.
