After 293 days, the ADAC Formula 4 returned to the Lausitzring following the break imposed by the coronavirus. In bright sunshine at the track, drivers from the ADAC High-Speed Academy posted their first laps during official testing.
The American, Jak Crawford, was fastest in the first session this Saturday morning with a time of 1:23.792 minutes. The Red Bull Junior from Van Amersfoort Racing thus consigned team-mate, Jonny Edgar, to second place. British driver, Edgar, was 0.132 seconds down on best time.
Third place went to the rookie, Elias Seppänen (+0.807), from US Racing based in Kerpen, who finished ahead of his German partner, Tim Tramnitz. Joshua Dürksen from ADAC Berlin Brandenburg eV was fifth; Dürksen came third last year in the ADAC Formula 4 Rookie championship.
Testing at the Lausitzring will continue until Sunday evening. The season opener was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic but will now take place at the same venue on the weekend of July 31st-August 2nd. Strict hygiene precautions are in force for both testing and the opening race weekend to ensure that they can go ahead safely.
