Girl power in ADAC Formula 4: Maya Weug will take her place on the grid at selected race weekends in 2022. Together with the Iron Lynx racing team, the Dutch driver will start at the season-opener at the Formula 1 circuit in Spa-Francorchamps.
Weug joined the Ferrari Driver Academy last year, since when she has enjoyed special support and training from the iconic Italian Formula 1 team. The 17-year-old with Belgian-Spanish roots is the first female driver to be accepted onto the youth development programme.
Weug made her debut in the ADAC’s high-speed school in 2021, when she finished an impressive ninth at the season-opener in Spielberg (Austria). She also started in Zandvoort, where she came home 15th. Weug is now looking to expand her programme and will line up at the first three race weekends in Spa-Francorchamps, Hockenheim and Zandvoort.
Iron Lynx is an Italian team and has been active in ADAC Formula 4 since 2020. As well as Weug’s top-ten result last year, the team also finished on the podium at the Red Bull Ring with Leonardo Fornaroli (Italy).
The new ADAC Formula 4 season gets underway at the Formula 1 circuit in Spa-Francorchamps from 22nd to 24th April. The ADAC talent factory is making its first appearance at the 7.004-kilometre ‘Ardennes Rollercoaster’ since 2015.
