Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Prema Racing) set the fastest lap time in both free practice sessions in ADAC Formula 4. The 15-year-old Italian’s time of 2:22.434 is the fastest so far at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium). His 16-year-old team-mate Rafael Camara (Brazil) finished second in both sessions and was also the fastest rookie.
The 21 drivers from 17 countries were driving the new Formula 4 car from Tatuus under competitive conditions for the first time. The stars of tomorrow were largely able to improve consistently throughout the two sessions on the 7.004-kilometre Formula 1 track, and this was reflected in the times. Charlie Wurz (16/Austria/Prema Racing), son of former F1 driver Alexander Wurz, was third fastest in both sessions.
In Jonas Ried (17/Ehingen/PHM Racing) and Chris Rosenkranz (15/Baabe/BWR Motorsport), two young German drivers were making their ADAC Formula 4 debuts. Qualifying for race one in the ADAC’s high-speed school gets underway at 17:00. The grid positions for race two of the season will then be determined from 17:25.
