Porsche versus Aston Martin, six-cylinder boxer versus V12, Dolenc versus Poulsen: the destiny of the amateur championship will be decided by a two-way tussle in the grand finale at Hockenheim. Swen Dolenc (FACH AUTO TECH) driving a Porsche 911 GT3 R emerged victorious from the second race ahead of Kristian Poulsen (Young Driver AMR) in the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3. Going into the last weekend of the season, Dolenc leads his Danish rival by 24 points.
Things were looking good for Toni Seiler (Callaway Competition) in the opening phase of the race as team-mate Frank Kechele driving the yellow Corvette established an early lead over the Porsche of Dolenc/Ragginger and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG of Stovicek/Janis (HEICO GRAVITY CHAROUZ). But when Kechele had to pit with technical problems, the FACH Porsche took over at the front.
Kristian Poulsen was out of luck as team-mate Christoffer Nygaard not only got off to a poor start but was subsequently spun round by another car. Nygaard and Poulsen fought their way back from the rear to a respectable midfield position. In the second stint, Poulsen overtook third-placed amateur Stovicek and then went past the Porsche 911 GT3 R driven by Georg Engelhardt (Team GT3 Kasko) to claim the runner-up spot. Meanwhile, Swen Dolenc was wrapping up his seventh win of the season in the amateur classification. Following Dolenc, Poulsen and Engelhardt across the line to claim P4 and P5 respectively were Remo Lips and Jens Richter (Callaway Competition) in their Corvette and the mixed doubles partnership of Andrina Gugger and Otto Klohs (FACH AUTO TECH) in their Porsche 911 GT3.
"That was a great scrap with Christian Engelhart in the second half of the race," said Dolenc. "He put me under pressure, but he wasn't faster. As soon as I took over from Martin Ragginger in our Porsche, I got into a good rhythm and had a super race. I was only 95 percent focusing on the amateur classification today."
