Unplanned pit stop for Andreas Wirth: The Corvette driver has to miss the penultimate ADAC GT Masters race weekend of the season at the Nürburgring due to illness. "It's the first time in my entire racing career that I will be out of a race with poor health. Unfortunately, I am simply not fit and the doctor has grounded me," said a disappointed Andreas Wirth.
What's particularly annoying for the Corvette driver: The Nürburgring is Wirth's 'showpiece' circuit. The Heidelberg-based driver has won a race there in each of the past three seasons and can look back on a total of four victories in the ADAC GT Masters at the Nürburgring.
"But the health issue has to take priority, naturally, even if it is frustrating, and I have to get back into shape quickly because my home race at the finale in Hockenheim is calendared for the end of the month," said Wirth.
Callaway Competition team Principal Ernst Wöhr: "It's extremely unfortunate that Andreas Wirth cannot be on the grid next weekend because the Nürburgring really is his 'showpiece' track. Health is, of course, a top priority and the whole team wishes Andreas a speedy recovery. Henry Zumbrink is standing in for him at the Nürburgring. We have had our eye on Henry for some time now; he's been racing in the Dutch National Championship for the past three seasons in a Corvette prepared by us and therefore knows how to be quick in a Vette."
Wirth will follow the ADAC GT Masters Weekend at the Nürburgring on television: "I'm going to watch kabel eins on Saturday and Sunday and keep my fingers crossed for Heinz-Harald and the Callaway team."
