Chevrolet Camaro GT excites fans at Sachsenring: Standing ovations

"The fans at home are still the best," said a delighted Uwe Geipel, director of Yaco Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer, after the ADAC GT Masters weekend at the Sachsenring. "The enthusiasm of the fans in Saxony for the Chevrolet Camaro GT was enormous. In the cool down lap after the race on Sunday, there were standing ovations for our Camaro." On the sporting side, the home race of Yaco Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer was, as expected, rather difficult. The biggest car with the longest wheelbase on the tight and twisty Sachsenring: That was not an ideal combination. Max Sandritter and Christian Bracke, who replaced the injured Philip Geipel, finished in 26th position in both races. Achim Winter and Charlie Geipel retired in the first race and saw the chequered flag in the second race in 25th position.

"The enthusiasm of the fans for our Camaro is one thing, but now we have also to work on the sporting side, to be more competitive," said Uwe Geipel. "Since the beginning of the season, it was always our goal to be competitive for the Nürburgring round, which is the next race. Since our Camaro is reliable now, we plan a major development program until the next race, which will be a big step forward. The work begins directly after the race at the Sachsenring and we will incorporate the experience collected so far and will surely make the Camaro more competitive for the next races."

Driver quotes after the race

Max Sandritter: "The Sachsenring with its many corner is a very difficult track for our car. We had a real good race pace and made again good progress. I felt very comfortable in the car, but you had to fight much with the car in the corners due to our long wheelbase. However, we are making good progress, as in Oschersleben and Zandvoort we were three seconds behind the leading cars und reduced this gap to 1.5 to 2 seconds at this event. The track didn't make this weekend an easy one for us, but we managed to bring both cars to the finish line and will work hard until the next weekend to further close the gap."

Charlie Geipel: "The Camaro is not a natural fit for the Sachsenring. Christian Brake described this fairly good when he said it's like driving a car on a kart track. But in the races, we were not bad. In Sunday's race, unfortunately the engine didn't start immediately after the driver change and we lost about 30 seconds and some positions. The car is still very new in terms of development but it's reliable now. While our results are certainly not outstanding, it was o.k. under the conditions of the Sachsenring."
