Chevrolet Camaro GT with good progress: Promising second round in the Netherlands

The new-for-2012 Chevrolet Camaro GT was reliable in both races in the Netherlands and showed already great potential in its still very early stage of development. In the first of tow races, the pair of Camaro GT entered by YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer and driven by Max Sandritter/Philip Geipel and Achim Winter/Charlie Geipel, saw the finish line. In Sunday's second race, both Camaro GT were taken out by other cars, while racing in a promising position.

YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer is the only team worldwide, which campaign the new Camaro GT, and seeks the competition in the German ADAC GT Masters, Europe's most competitive GT-series. High on the list at the second round of the series, which travelled to Zandvoort in the Netherlands for their races three and four of the season, was to finish both races. In the first race, this mission was accomplished. Max Sandritter/Philip Geipel finished 24th in the 40 car strong grid, Achim Winter and Charlie Geipel had to serve a stop&go-penalty and finished 30th.

At the start of Sunday's second race, Philip Geipel delivered a big show. After problems in Qualifying, Geipel had to start from the back of the grid. Starting 38th, he was already up to 23rd after the first lap, but was taken out by a BMW Z4 in the third lap and had to retire with a damaged car. The same fate occurred to Achim Winter, who was 19th in the latter part of the race, before a Porsche had a too optimistic braking point and drove into the back of the Camaro GT.

With good progress, YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer is now looking forward to the next round, which is the home race for the team from Saxony at the Sachsenring.

Driver quotes after the race:

Charlie Geipel:

"We didn't had any technical issues this weekend, the Camaro seams now to be a reliable car. After reaching this level, we can start to improve the performance."

Achim Winter:

"For the first time, we had a trouble free race. Now we have to work on the speed. On the straights, we are among the quickest cars, but we have to work on corner speed, especially in the mid-speed corners. It's a shame, that I was taken out in the second race, otherwise we could have scored the best result with our Camaro so far."

Max Sandritter:

"Unfortunately Philip was taken out of the second race by another car, so there was no racing for me on Sunday. Our goal was to finish the races this weekend, and in the first race, we reached this goal. The car is quick, now we have to work on the details. We made good progress and positions in he mid field are no problem, considering Zandvoort is a track, that is anything but suited for our car."

Philip Geipel:

"I had a good start, coming from position 38, I was already 23rd after one lap. I couldn't asked for a better start, but then Martin Matzke in a BMW took me out and my race was over. I better not imagine what may have been in this race after the great start."
