The team travelled with high hopes to the power-track in Styria, but eventually stayed behind the stated objectives. Max Sandritter and Philip Geipel finished 27th and 24th in the two races, while Achim Winter and Charlie Geipel had bad luck and missed both races after an engine failure during qualifying.
Although YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer did not meet their expectations at the Red Bull Ring, the Uwe Geipel led team collected good experience. "We finished in both races and could learn a few things, that will certainly help to increase our performance at the next round at the Lausitzring", Uwe Geipel said after the two races in the Alps. "Our speed was almost equal to that of a third Camaro, which was entered for testing purposes and driven by GM factory driver Oliver Gavin. This proved that we are not wrong. The Red Bull Ring is actually a good track for the Camaro, but we lost in the twisty middle sector more time than we expected. Also the competition in the ADAC GT Masters was much closer this weekend as expected and if you lose three or four tenths of a seconds per lap, this will drop you ten positions on the grid. I'm sorry for Achim Winter and Charlie Geipel, who unfortunately had an engine failure. A small part in the oil pump broke, which eventually led to the engine failure."
YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer prepares the Camaro GT now for the next race, which already takes place from 24th to 26th August at the Lausitzring.
Driver quotes after the race:
Philip Geipel: "Right before the driver change in the second race, Max got a hit on the back and the rear bonnet was damaged. At the pit stop, it took some time to fix this problem and then also the engine didn't restart immediately, which cost us another few seconds. I pushed then, but also had to have an eye on the brakes, as the track stresses the brakes a lot. Then with six laps to go, the power steering went down and I had a very tough job, so I was quite happy when there was a late safety car at the end of the second race."
Max Sandritter: "We hoped to be more competitive at the Red Bull Ring, but unfortunately we couldn't get more out of the Camaro. After brake issues in the free practice we were able to increase our speed in qualifying. The first race ran without any technical problems for us, but a rival hit the back of my Camaro, so I went through the gravel and lost some positions. Race two was o.k., but then we got a problem with the rear bonnet and the rear wing. I pitted to solve the problem. In the second part of the race, Philip put in some real great lap times. Certainly this weekend could have gone better for us. But we continue to work hard and try to improve the car and will attack again at the Lausitzring in 14 days."
