Comments after qualifying: What the drivers said after qualifying at the Nürburgring

Maximilian Götz (#5 kfzteile24 MS RACING Team, Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3), pole position, Race 2:

"We certainly didn't expect to be so well placed after both qualifying sessions. We had no time to switch from a rain setup to one more suited to dry conditions, so we went into qualifying with a compromise, which actually worked rather well. The two poles here are the high point in what has been steady progress for us over the last few races."

Sebastian Asch (#5 kfzteile24 MS RACING Team, Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3), pole position, Race 1:

"At the beginning of the session, the spring on the accelerator snapped. I had to return to the pits, because the engine was running on full throttle. The team were sweating a bit, but the mechanics managed to sort it out very quickly. After the pit stop, it looked like the rain might start up again. But it stayed dry, and I slotted back into the session right away. Having two pole positions is fantastic. Now it's up to us to exploit them in the two races."

Luca Ludwig (#22 Prosperia uhc speed-Audi R8 LMS ultra), P27 on the grid in Race 2:

"We botched the setup and so our only hope was rain, but then it stayed dry."

Dominik Baumann (#8 HEICO Motorsport, Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3), P23 on the grid in Race 1:

"We went with a compromise between dry and wet setups in qualifying. Then I went out on track when the surface was still a little bit damp. It would have been better if I'd gone out later, but by the time the track was really dry, the tyres had passed their peak. We had been hoping for more from qualifying."

Frank Kechele: (#18 Callaway Competition-Corvette Z06.R GT3) P10 on the grid in Race 2:

"We simply don't have the right car for wet conditions. That became obvious during free practice today. Qualifying went well, though, as it had dried up by then. However, we still haven't got enough grip on the rear wheels, and my fastest lap wasn't all that good either. "

Jan Seyffarth (#42 SMS Seyffarth Motorsport, Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3), P4 on the grid in Race 2:

"First of all, I have to say well done to my team-mate Maximilian Mayer who put in a really strong performance to get our Mercedes into 14th position on the grid for the first race. He was just half a second off qualifying third. I'm happy with my own result, but unfortunately I didn't manage to string my fastest sector times into a single lap, otherwise P3 or even a spot on the front row might have been on the cards. But fourth place is a good platform for the race on Sunday."

Kristian Poulsen (#32 Young Driver AMR, Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3), P11 on the grid in Race 1:

"I went out right at the start of qualifying but should have bided my time, because the track got quicker later when my tyres were already past their best."

Daniel Keilwitz (#28 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3), P15 on the grid in Race 2:

"I'm not too happy, since I was unable to exploit the tyres to the full before they fell away. I then also got stuck in some traffic and never had a completely clear lap. But from 15th position, it should still be possible on Sunday to finish in the points."

Jesse Krohn (#38 Lambda Performance, Ford GT), P26 on the grid in Race 1:

"I tried everything and the Ford GT is still running as sweet as ever. We posted 22 laps, more than any other team, but we're losing a lot of time in all sectors. I've a feeling that we are down on power. The other teams are leaving us standing on the straights. It never used to be like that."

Abdulaziz Al Faisal (#19 Schubert Motorsport, BMW Z4 GT3), P18 on the grid in Race 1:

"It wasn't easy for me today to find the limit. The combination of track layout, Yokohama tyres and BMW Z4 GT3 was completely new to me. Rain completely ruined the practice session, and there was no chance to get accustomed to dry conditions. I've slowly got used to things and under the circumstances am very pleased with the deficit of only about six tenths of a second on my team-mate Claudia Hürtgen. Now, I hope it stays dry for the race because then there's a chance of a top-ten place. But it will be tough in the wet."

Dominik Schwager (# 20 Schubert Motorsport, BMW Z4 GT3), P5 on the grid in Race 2:

"We are very pleased with the result. Third and fifth constitute a good platform for the race. As with Claudia, the second row would also have been within my grasp, but for hitting traffic on each of my hot laps during my second stint. The other competitors treated me fairly and made room for me, but of course, you can't go to the limit in such circumstances. Although rain is forecast, we're hoping for dry weather which suits us better, but as things stand, we'll still have to consider the possibility of rain."
