Maxime Martin (#1 ALPINA BMW ALPINA B6 GT3), second: "Our race was not too bad, but over the last four or five laps, the wet tyres made it very difficult. Still, we're very pleased with second place; these are useful points towards the championship."
Dino Lunardi (#1 ALPINA BMW ALPINA B6 GT3), second: "There was a lot of water on the track at the start and the tyre pressure on our car wasn't the best. It became easier with each lap, though, and I was able to go on the offensive. In the last ten minutes of my stint, the changing conditions again hindered progress. However, the main thing is that we are up at the front once again."
René Rast (#40 MAMEROW Racing-Audi R8 LMS ultra), winner: "The race was great fun. After getting the jump on Sebastian Asch, I tried to push my car to the limit and establish as much of a lead as possible. We did, however, then lose a few seconds on the pit stop because a Lamborghini was blocking the way and we had to wait behind it."
Sean Edwards (#36 Team Geyer & Weinig / Schütz Motorsport-Porsche 911 GT3 R), third: "The team pulled off a great pit stop and I had a good run. I managed to overtake a Mercedes and then had a terrific scrap with the Alpina. I hope we can repeat this cracking performance again tomorrow."
Christian Engelhart (#36 Team Geyer & Weinig / Schütz Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 R), third: "The start was enough to make my heart stop, because I had some misfires and all the lights went out - error messages that I'd never seen before appeared on screen. The car misfired throughout the first lap, but then the problem resolved itself and I charged up the field. I had a scrap with the Alpina, and Sean continued the battle to the end."
Kristian Poulsen (#33 Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3), second in amateur classification: "I couldn't see too much at the start because of the spray, but it eased off after a few laps. We were handed a drive-through penalty for contact with Alessi's Corvette, which I personally thought was a little harsh. Alessi braked a little earlier than on previous laps, but unfortunately, the contact was unavoidable."
René Bourdeaux (#26 Team GT3 Kasko-Porsche 911 GT3 R), third in amateur classification: "I had a good start. Although visibility was very poor, I maintained position. By the end of my stint, the windscreen was a bit dirty and the windshield wipers were smearing, so visibility was bad again. We tackled the second half of the race on wets. The podium finish was long overdue."
Swen Dolenc (#15 FACH AUTO TECH-Porsche 911 GT3 R), winner in amateur classification: "I had to take action to avoid another car on the second lap, which cost me a lot of positions, but I managed to get them back before we swapped drivers. Our Porsche ran really well today, and my team-mate Martin Ragginger subsequently drove a great race. With every outing, I learn something new from him."
Christiaan Frankenhout (#7 HEICO Motorsport-Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3): fourth: "The Nürburgring is one of my favourite tracks, and that will have showed again today. Unfortunately, we didn't do enough for a podium, but at least we're back among the front-runners."
Florian Stoll (kfzteile24 MS RACING Team-Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3), P24: "On the first lap, I had to dodge Max Mayer who was straddling the track at the end of the sprint section. I went onto the grass, which definitely cost me ten positions, but I gradually worked my way back up the field. We switched to slicks, which was the right decision. Then, towards the end, Daniel got hit and lost a few places. With a bit more luck, our result would certainly have looked a lot better."
Diego Alessi (#28 Callaway Competition-Corvette Z06.R GT3), P33: "On the first two laps, it was all going really well, but suddenly I felt I had no grip, so I just concentrated on getting the car safely through to the driver changeover. Daniel drove the second half of the race on slicks, but that wasn't a good decision, as the conditions weren't yet right for them."
Charlie Geipel (#35 YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer-Chevrolet Camaro GT), P31: "We already have enough difficulty making our power work on the track, so wet conditions just make matters worse."
Maximilian Götz (#5 kfzteile24 MS RACING Team-Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3), seventh: "We wanted to take our time at the pit stop and see what the others were up to. So we waited, but unfortunately seven seconds longer than we were allowed to. However, the decision to change to slicks was spot on; towards the end of the race, I posted by far the fastest lap of anyone out there today. Now we must seize our opportunity tomorrow to get a good result."
Jesse Krohn (#38 Lambda Performance-Ford GT GT3), DNF: "The car ran much better today than yesterday in qualifying. We were fast again, and in these wet conditions, we could have finished somewhere near the front. But then I got sandwiched by two other cars and my Ford ended up in the gravel. Fortunately, the damage isn't too bad, and we have another chance tomorrow to attack the field from behind."
Mirko Bortolotti (#19 Schubert Motorsport BMW Z4 GT3), P14: "Our 14th-place finish was certainly all we were ever going to get out of today's race. When I took over from Abdulaziz, we were back in 21st position. We opted for wets, but by the time the rain set in again towards the end, we had really hammered them on a drying track, so the advantage was no longer there. We made a small error in qualifying - otherwise we might have been starting from the second row like our team-mates. The final result is reasonable, but obviously we're not totally happy with it."
Claudia Hürtgen (# 20 Schubert Motorsport BMW Z4 GT3), sixth: "We couldn't have got any more out of this race than we did, so I think that the result is more than respectable. After the first few laps, the sense of frustration was immense. It didn't matter whether it was one of the fast or slow corners - we didn't have a chance against our opponents in the rain today. Under the circumstances, we got the maximum out of the car. Tomorrow, we could be in for more of the same; if it rains, we'll have to fight for every last point. If it would just stay dry, though, we see ourselves as contenders for a podium."
