ADAC GT Masters·15.7.2012

Comments after the race: What the drivers said after the eighth race of the season.

Maxime Martin (#1 ALPINA-BMW ALPINA B6 GT3), winner: "We weren't particularly strong in the first third of the race when the track was drying out or towards the end either, but in heavy rain, the car performed brilliantly. Dino had a fantastic second stint, but if the race had lasted a few laps longer it might have been a close-run thing."

Dino Lunardi (#1 ALPINA-BMW ALPINA B6 GT3), winner: "Maxime had an incredible start to the race and drove a great stint. As the track started to dry out, I was having problems with the tyre pressure. The closing stages were quite difficult, and I was just focusing on getting the car over the finishing line.

René Rast (#40 MAMEROW Racing-Audi R8 LMS ultra), P3: "We managed to work our way up through the field quite nicely today, and we are very pleased with the way the weekend has turned out. The pit stop was perfect, the setup was just right and I was able to overtake one car after another in the second stint."

Christian Mamerow (#40 MAMEROW Racing-Audi R8 LMS ultra), P3: "I really enjoyed the race. I avoided putting myself under pressure at the start, just watching the opposition carefully for the first couple of laps, but then I went on the attack. We weren't all that fast when the rain was coming down hard, but we got into a good rhythm."

Maximilian Götz (#5 kfzteile24 MS RACING Team-Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3), P2: "I got off to a good start, but the ALPINA out-accelerated me on the third lap. I hung on his tail, but it was pretty difficult because of the pouring rain. Second place is OK for us; it's the best we could have achieved in these conditions."

Sebastian Asch (#5 kfzteile24 MS RACING Team-Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3), P2: "We didn't have much of a chance in this heavy rain, but if the race had lasted a couple of laps longer, I'm pretty sure we could have won it."

Swen Dolenc (#15 FACH AUTO TECH-Porsche 911 GT3 R), P5 overall and winner in amateur classification: "We had decided on a mixed wet/dry setup, so the car wasn't performing quite as well in the final stages of the race. For that reason, I decided not to defend too hard and just focused on the amateur rankings."

René Bourdeaux (#26 Team GT3 Kasko-Porsche 911 GT3 R): P3 in amateur classification: "I had a good race, and I settled into a good rhythm from the start. It got pretty difficult toward the end, as I had to keep looking for wet patches in order to conserve my tyres. Just before the finish, I spun the car in the Mercedes Arena. That cost me a few places, but luckily I'm still third in the amateur rankings."

Kristian Poulsen (#33 Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3): "I wasn't happy with the race. The tyres had deteriorated by the time my stint came, so unfortunately I couldn't really do much."

Johannes Stuck (#32 Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3), P26: "I was shunted off on the first lap. I'm afraid this seems to be a regular occurrence this season. The gearbox was causing trouble near the end of the race; the first signs were already there during my stint."

Kenneth Heyer (#7 HEICO Motorsport-Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3), P10: "All in all, a good weekend for us, with fourth place on Saturday and P10 today. Christiaan fought his way into tenth place on the last lap, he was very quick - two seconds faster than our opponents."

Sean Edwards (#36 Team Geyer & Weinig / Schütz Motorsport), P4: "Fourth place is pretty good. We had gambled on a dry setup, so things got better and better toward the end of the race. We scored some valuable championships points for my team-mate Christian Engelhart this weekend, and it was a great team success, especially after the run of bad luck we have had in the last few races."

Toni Seiler (#18 Callaway Competition-Corvette Z06.R GT3), P23: "This weekend's conditions weren't right for the car. It was OK in the dry, but we were having a lot of problems with the traction control on the wet track."

Christian Brake (#34 YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer), P32: "With the track being so wet, we couldn't get the tyres up to the right temperature. Consequently, we didn't have any traction; that was our big problem this weekend. In the first race, we took a bit of a gamble on the tyres. In the second, I was able to keep up with everyone else at first, but then the car started to handle rather strangely and I wasn't able to take advantage of the drying track."

Nico Verdonck (#38 Lambda Performance-Ford GT GT3), P18: "Our Ford was really fast in the rain, and despite the poor conditions, this was a good race for us. Ultimately, though, we lost this weekend on the basis of our performance in Friday's qualifying: if I hadn't taken a trip across the grass, we could have been starting from one of the Top Ten positions on the grid instead of from 33rd.

Abdulaziz Turki Al Faisal (#19 Schubert Motorsport-BMW Z4 GT3), P16: "The Z4 felt good right from the start and we were able to match our opponents for pace. But unfortunately, something must have broken on the car - perhaps part of the suspension - because every time I turned the wheel, the car slewed about wildly. From that point on, it was all about finishing the race. At least we defended our starting position, which is OK, but not exactly what we set out to achieve. I think that, in the circumstances, we got the maximum out of the situation. Anyway, I hope that means we're in for some better results in the remaining races."

Dominik Schwager (#20 Schubert Motorsport-BMW Z4 GT3), P6: "We didn't make a single mistake this weekend, the team did a perfect job, the pit stops went smoothly, and yet P6 was the maximum that we were going to get out of this weekend. So for us, these results actually feel like wins. Unfortunately, we have hardly any traction in the rain, so unlike in dry conditions, we're unable to compensate for our top speed deficit. We were only competitive on the wet tyres once the track started to dry out. Consequently, we were never going to get anything more out of our car; I hope that's the way it's seen by everyone out there as well..."
