ADAC GT Masters·10.8.2012

Comments on qualifying: What the drivers said after Friday practice at the Red Bull Ring

Mario Farnbacher (#6 Farnbacher ESET Racing-Porsche 911 GT3 R), pole position, Race 1: "I had established an early lead, but then the session was interrupted after a Camaro leaked oil. We then took our time before launching a second attack, because the track was dirty and only got faster towards the end. In any case, P1 is a good platform for the first race."

Philipp Eng (#14 MRS GT-Racing-McLaren MP4-12C GT3), pole position, Race 2: "I posted one really good lap to get myself up to third, then we made some small changes to the car. That made it even better, and I had an excellent lap. Normally, you make one or two tiny mistakes on a lap, but this one was just perfect. Getting pole position is a great achievement for the whole team after we had such a difficult start to the season."

Christian Engelhart (#36 Team Geyer & Weinig / Schütz Motorsport-Porsche 911 GT3 R), P3 for Race 1: "I'm happy about qualifying third. However, the other Porsches were slightly faster than us in the first sector, so we'll have to analyse the reason for that. But third on the grid is perfectly respectable."

René Rast (#40 Mamerow Racing-Audi R8 LMS ultra), P11 for Race 1: "We have no chance against Porsches and Corvettes on this track. Also we're carrying a 40kg success ballast in the car. We are satisfied with the job we've done and we've got the maximum possible out of today. Now I'm hoping for rain; that would certainly help us."

Daniel Keilwitz (#28 Callaway Competition-Corvette Z06.R GT3), P3 for Race 2: "Second place was on the cards, but starting third here is actually even more of an advantage in the sprint to the first corner. Qualifying fourth and third is OK for us because our nearest rivals in the championship are starting further back."

Diego Alessi (#28 Callaway Competition-Corvette Z06.R GT3), qualified fourth for Race 1: "We think we could have gone two tenths of a second faster, but so far so good. Now I just hope it's not raining on Saturday, because on a wet track, it gets very difficult for us; that's one thing we learnt at the Nürburgring."

Andrea Bovensiepen (ALPINA team principal): "We thought we might qualify in the P10 to P20 range. We're starting from ninth and 17th, which is exactly in line with expectations. Dino Lunardi was particularly strong today, but his efforts were frustrated by the red flag at the start of qualifying, because when the session was interrupted, he was on a flying lap."

Kristian Poulsen (#33 Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin V12 Vantage), P21 for Race 1: "Things aren't going well for us here; we are clearly lacking power. On the first sector alone, we are losing eight tenths of a second, and in that sector, there is only one corner." Swen Dolenc (#15 FACH AUTO TECH-Porsche 911 GT3 R), P8 for Race 1: "I wouldn't say that I was completely satisfied. I feel that I should have got more out of the session. But my team-mate Martin Ragginger and our principal Alex Fach say it was good, so maybe I should be happy after all."
