DB Motorsport: Virtual preparation: BMW outfit heads team standings

"I'm really looking forward to the Sachsenring," says DB Motorsport driver Jeroen den Boer ahead of the third ADAC Masters Weekend of the year. Dutch drivers den Boer and Knap achieved an almost perfect result in the BMW Z4 GT3 at their home race in Zandvoort - their first win plus a second place in the ADAC GT Masters at only their fourth weekend together in the League of Super Sports Cars.

Prior to the race in Saxony, den Boer/Knap are placed second in the drivers' championship with just one point adrift, whilst DB Motorsport, the outfit set up just four years ago in 2008, heads the team standings. Den Boer: "We certainly didn't expect to enjoy such huge success. We hoped to be regular Top-Ten finishers during the season but never expected to be so far up the field."

However, the roller-coaster circuit represents new territory for the two BMW drivers and so the next race in Saxony will be a real challenge. "We've done a lot of work in the simulator to get ready for the Sachsenring," said den Boer speaking about race preparations. "Our engineer has a simulator which many Dutch drivers utilise to train right up to GP2 level. It works very well and is well worth doing in my opinion."

An additional headache: the successful weekend at Zandvoort has resulted in a weight penalty for DB Motorsport and the BMW Z4 GT3 as they travel to Saxony: "We'll be carrying an extra 50kg after our win in the last race so it will certainly be tough and very noticeable, particularly on uphill sections, on the start/finish straight, for example, where it is rather steep. On the whole, I think that the Sachsenring will suit our BMW and that we have the Z4 very well sorted for all the tracks on the calendar, with the exception of really high-speed circuits such as the Red Bull Ring, but it won't be easy in view of the weight penalty. Before we line up at the Sachsenring, though, we'll be competing at Silverstone in the Blancpain Endurance Championship which we will use as a warm-up for the Sachsenring weekend."
