YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer made not only many new fans during the season opener of the ADAC GT Masters at Oschersleben/Germany with deep V8-rumble of the new Chevrolet Camaro, but also showed that Camaro GT has a big potential. Despite the YACO Racing team was denied a top-result at the first weekend with the Camaro, the team collected valuable experience with the new car.
Cool temperatures and rain didn't help the Uwe Geipel lead team in their first competitive outing with the Camaro. Max Sandritter and Philip Geipel, the driver pairing in one of the two Camaro GT, were denied a finish in both races, but had on a dry track in Sundays race no problems, to show a good speed and fight for positions in the highly competitive mid-field of the ADAC GT Masters.
Charlie Geipel and Achim Winter finished 29th in the more then 40 cars strong field of the ADAC GT Masters, but were taken out of the second race after an incident with a Lamborghini.
Team principal Uwe Geipel wasn't too unhappy with the performance of the new Chevrolet Camaro. "We received both cars fairly late, so it was very obvious for us, that at the first race weekend with the Camaro, will be a learning weekend. We also had some various minor niggles with the car, but this is normal for a brand new racecar. What makes us optimistic for the next round, is that during both races, our drivers clocked in some very competitive lap times. Charlie (Geipel) was very quick in the first race. Until the next race in Zandvoort in four weeks, we will work very hard und our goal is to show the true potential of the Camaro latest by the mid of the season."
Driver quotes after the first race weekend:
Achim Winter: "The Camaro is a very spectacular car, but we lack testing. Our goal was to finish both races. In the second race, we didn't reach this goal, after an unnecessary contact by a competitor. The driveability of the car is good, now we have to work on the details."
Philip Geipel: "We started this weekend not only with a brand new car, but also with new drivers and learned a lot. In both races, we showed a little bit of what the car is capable of and we know now, where we have to improve. After this weekend, I can't wait for the next round, where we will start with much more knowledge about the Camaro. But now it's also up to Sareni United, the developer of the Camaro, to improve the reliability of the car."
