Lunardi/Martin are currently second in the driver's championship, only three points behind the leaders, while ALPINA is also second in team's standing. Nevertheless, ALPINA expects a difficult weekend on Germany's easternmost racetrack.
In the championship-winning season 2011, ALPINA walked away with good points and two fourth place finishes from the Lausitzring. A good points haul is also on the cards for this weekend's sixth round of the ADAC GT Masters on the Lausitzring, which is a combination of a High-speed oval course and a classic road track. After a sobering most recent weekend in Austria, as the BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 of Lunardi / Martin didn't score any points due to a high success ballast of 50kg, Lunardi/Martin at least start without success ballast at the track near Dresden.
"Even without ballast onboard, it will not be an easy weekend for us, as the track does not suit our car very well," predicts Dino Lunardi. "We had two good results last season, but had two very good races and good luck. This time it will be much harder. Porsche and Corvette were very strong one year ago, and are currently in good shape again. For us, it is important to be constant, don't take any risks and get as much points as possible. Any mistake at this stage of the championship can be fatal and our hopes are clearly in the last two rounds of the season at the Nürburgring and Hockenheim, where we can exploit the strengths of our BMW ALPINA."
"Take some points this weekend is clearly our goal," pretends ALPINA's Andreas Bovensiepen. "If we qualify in the top ten for both races, I would be happy. Speed wise it will be difficult for us to finish in the top five in regular conditions. Since the start of the season the weight of our BMW ALPINA has been restricted and also the power has been reduced. We clearly saw the impact of these measures at the last round in Austria. For the next race, Audi, BMW and Aston Martin got weight concessions, so the competition will be even harder. We need to make the best out of this weekend and attack again at the last two rounds at the Nürburgring and in Hockenheim."
A second BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 is entered by the ALPINA customer team LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler for Florian Spengler and Johannes Leidinger. After Spengler / Leidinger already impressed at the Red Bull Ring with some fast times, the Engstler drivers hope for a good result at the Lausitzring.
