ADAC GT Masters·1.3.2012

Lestrup to drive for WestCoast-BMW

The Swedish team have signed fellow countryman Fredrik Lestrup as their first driver. Lestrup contested in two rounds of the 2011 ADAC GT Masters championship and together with WestCoast Racing won last year's Swedish GT Championship.

"It is great that the team has so much confidence in me and together with me, are competing in the ADAC GT Masters" said the 27 year old from Stockholm. "With 42 cars on the grid already, the ADAC GT Masters is one of the most fiercely contested GT championships. I have never looked forward to the beginning of a season as much as I am this year. I feel very happy at WestCoast and I am happy that we are competing in the ADAC GT Masters together."

After two trial runs at the Nürburgring and the Lausitzring last year, Laustrup knows what to expect this year. "The races last year showed that we have the speed to race at the front. We also learned that the field is extremely close together and the gap from first to last place is the narrowest of margins. In the last few months, BMW have invested a lot of time and effort in the development of the Z4 GT3. We will give it our all, and if the new car is fast enough, I have no doubt that we will be racing at the front."

For WestCoast team boss Dick Jönsson Wigroth, it was a logical decision to start with Lestrup in the ADAC GT Masters after a season in which his team entered a total of six cars in championships in both Sweden and Germany. "When we started with Fredrik last year, we had already planned to do a full season together and it is great that we are able to do this. Last year, Fredik not only proved to us that he is fast, but also that he works brilliantly with the team, and he was a key factor in the development program of the Z4 GT3. We are undoubtedly one of the strongest teams that you can find in GT racing, but we want to test ourselves against the best teams. It is a new challenge for Fredrik and the team, but it is one that we are relishing."

In addition to the ADAC GT Masters, WestCoast Racing is also committed to this year's Swedish GT Championship and a touring car series with BMW. Lestrup's team mate in the Z4 GT3 will be confirmed in the coming days.
