Nissan has reworked many areas of the GT-R GT3 for its second season in motor racing. Applying the lessons learned from 2012, Nissan Motorsport (NISMO) has now introduced the GT-R Nismo GT3 for 2013. The Japanese have paid particular attention to engine, aerodynamics and brakes.
The 3.8-litre V6 twin-turbo engine has undergone the most substantial modifications. Modified camshaft timing now coaxes even more performance out of the only V6 engine in the GT3 class, increasing power from 520bhp to 550. In addition, Nissan has improved the engine's reliability.
Aerodynamics have also been revised, which is particularly obvious when you see the huge canards in the front air dam. Air louvers in the front wings have also been revised and enlarged, plus, the position of the rear wing has been optimised. The upgraded aerodynamics not only serve to improve the Nissan's downforce but also enhance aerodynamic efficiency. The sequential six-speed gearbox has been adapted to suit the higher power output, and the suspension has also been tuned to match the changes to aerodynamics.
NISMO and sales and development partner, JR Motorsport based in England, are offering the 2013 model Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 for sale, priced 270,000 GBP (approx 338,000 euros). JR Motorsport invites race teams interested in the Nissan GT-R to a two-day test session at the Portimão circuit in Portugal.
Schulze Motorsport ran a Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 driven by Michael and Tobias Schulze in the 2012 ADAC GT Masters. Their GT-R was one of only three that saw duty in Europe.
